Slot back. The run n shoot offense calls for a 4 or 5 man line with 4 or 5 receivers. There is no tight end, but a quarterback and a slot back. If Line wasn't such a good runner his primary purpose would be to provide protection for the QB and then get open for an emergency quick dump off pass.

The single-back in the Run and Shoot is referred to as a super-back (S-Back).
The slot-backs are receivers (usually undersized, but not always; SB)

From Wikipedia:
SuperBacks need to be built much like fullbacks as they often have to deal with no lead blocker and are often the only defense to blitzers for the QB's protection.

The downside of the R&S is that it does not burn through clock time. Having a good SB is critical not only to establishing the run threat but to also run down the clock when you have the lead.

Famous Example:
1992 AFC Wild Card game where the Houston Oilers, after earning a 35-3 lead against the Buffalo Bills, rather than winding the clock down with the running game and preserving the lead for the victory, called 22 pass plays against only four runs in the second half and eventually lost the game by a score of 41-38.

So, having a good back is not a bonus but rather a necessity in the R&S. As our talent continues to improve, I wonder if JJ has ever considered to have a few 2-back formation for running the clock down, although a lack of a TE limits the number of formation/plays we could use in a 2-back set.

How does JJ run down the clock now?

There is no offense that has a 4 man line.

He has the QB jog to the sideline between plays.

Yeah that four man line thing was a goof i was writing too quickly, but the R&S definitely uses a slot back or a super back depending on formation. Right now Line would be more of a "super back"

he doesn't. his strategy is always "keep scoring".
run-heavy play calls last year were due to lack of effectiveness of the qb play, but it isn't his style.

Sounds like the R&S needs to evolve a bit if we are going to make it to the next level, otherwise ignore everything but the 4thQ because ever team will have a chance to comeback.
