To all of the \"Fire Bennett\" NewbiesHaving decided that educating you as to facts gleaned from this board over the past three years is a waste of time since new posters come on (or old posters under new names) at a rapid rate of late, and these new posters can't be bothered to read what has been written in other posts over the past day, week, month, year or three years. I will not respond to anymore "Fire Bennett" posts. He won't get fired this year for reasons stated over and over again. $$$ talk BS walks. No Newby yet has taken the bait to fork over $4 Million it will take to fire Bennett and hire a "name" coach.

Thanks EastStang!!! Your resolution to keep your mouth shut is the best thing you've offered this board in a long time! Peace be with you. Let the 'newbies' talk football. I look forward to hearing from you after we get our new coach and SMU finally becomes a team on the rise.
WE NEED TO BELIEVE!!!
Re:
It is clearly a radical idea to have the coach fired when he has won 4 games over three season. Actually, I have heard Bennett is a candiate for the Washington gig.
East, I don't blame anybody for being frustrated with Bennett. Things are not going well on the field. Having said that, there are alot of external factors that knowledgable fans understand. Thing is, we need all fans no matter who they want to blame. My skepticism about some of these new posters is I wonder if they are really SMU supporters though. It wouldn't be unlike a bunch of frogs to come over here and sabotage our recruiting with a bunch of dogpiling on Bennett. Bennett has beaten them and threatened them on several recruits and Gary Patterson is not exactly gods gift to coaching over there.
Bashing NewbiesHey!!!
Leave Eastang alone! He does an excellent job of arranging deck chairs. Also he is on constant look out for ice. Full Steam Ahead!
Do you need anymore ice? Let me help you arrange those deck chairs.
Re:
Nice try Hoop Fan, but Bennett sabotages recruiting by getting beat 42-0. If we fired Bennett now and went after a big name, recruiting would be improved. It will be difficult to recruit now that players know that Bennett will not be here long. Contrary to what Stallion says, our players try their hardest and just get beat. I care enough about the players to give them a coach that could possibly lead them to victory. Finally, instead of blaming new posters, you should turn your attention to the Dallas Morning News, Park Cities People, and the Ticket. They destroy our natural recruiting base by making fun of the program.
So the players are giving the effort and we have good players, its just X and O's huh Troll? You're hallucinating. This is not an X and O problem we have here. Same thing they/you said about Cavan. We just need a genius coach that can outsmart all of the other coaches, is that it? Good luck with all that. What we have here is a lack of size, speed and depth. Those things aren't important in football are they? Before you cite the Highland Park high school example or some other nonsense, there are some levels of football where you can outprogram the Forneys of the world, but D-1 football aint a place where you out work people. In fact, have we even had more than one or two close games in Bennetts tenure that would indicate how he coaches under pressure when we have a chance to win? Sorry, but getting blown out reflects more on recruiting than X's and O's.
Re:
The reason we do not recruit well has nothing to do with Bennett, it has to do with the DMN, Park Cities People, and the Ticket. Hiring a name coach would allow us to get some decent coverage. Otherwise, we will hear the Hardline talk about how Southlake Carrol would beat us. Recruits are smart enough to realize that a commitment to Bennett will likely mean playing for another coach very soon. They are not idiots, people tend to want winners. You seem to be the only person I know that enjoys getting killed. I want to get rid of Bennett because he is not a good coach. We are not playing a top schedule, and we are getting BLOWN out by teams like Rice and La. Tech. In the Rice game, a freshman QB from a poor high school program ran for over 100 yards in his start. That is not good coaching.
Re:
It's not their job to promote the university. It's their job to report on what happens within the athletic department. With that in mind, they fall into three categories: The Ticket: you're right - they're a joke. The only mention they make is a joking one. Since the school pays the station to broadcast games, that should be stopped. They don't have to cheerlead, but they're out of line with the jokes and bashing. PCP: according to what's been written here, they simply don't cover SMU, in favor of high school sports. But I gather they don't bash, either. They're simply unaware that there are games at SMU. DMN: they cover us. Lightly, but they do. I've seen Calvin Watkins at many games. They don't cover us enough, but they do some. I don't have a problem with them. Calvin does a good job, considering what I can only assume are serious restrictions on the space they give him. Since the media is your prime area for improved recruiting (and perhaps there's some merit to the idea - not sure), what steps have you taken to facilitate a change in our recruiting?
Re:
Hire a coach with some experience and with a name. That way, our program will not be a joke in their eyes.
