Rivals Mizzou site says they are gone
http://missouri.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1281657
A source with connections to television executives involved in broadcasting college football in multiple BCS conferences has further confirmed what PowerMizzou.com reported earlier in the week. The source said Missouri's move to the SEC was "as done as done can be without the official vote." The source further stated that the vote, as reported earlier in the week by the Times, is not expected to be a hurdle.
The University of Missouri's Board of Curators opened a three-day meeting in Kansas City on Wednesday night. The Board will go into closed executive session at 3:45 today and again at 10 a.m. Friday "for consideration of certain confidential or privileged communications with university counsel, litigation, property, personnel, contract items, and confidential or privileged communications with university auditors, as authorized by law and upon approval by resolution of the board of curators."
Conference realignment or affiliation is not mentioned anywhere on the meeting agenda. But multiple sources have told PowerMizzou.com to expect movement on the issue over the next two days. Warren Erdman, the Chairman of the Board, told the Kansas City Star on Wednesday night: ""I will probably have nothing to say on that until Friday? If there is anything to say then."
Should the Board of Curators take any action, that action would likely be a "conditional withdrawal" from the Big 12 Conference. The timeline for pending acceptance to the SEC is not known, but it was seven days between Texas A&M's withdrawal from the Big 12 and its addition to the SEC.
The major questions which would still remain is when would Mizzou begin play in the SEC?
Two weeks ago, Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas said that Missouri would be a member of the Big 12 in the 2012-13 athletic year, indicating it was too late to switch in time for next year. However, earlier this week, Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the SEC is preparing a 13-team schedule for next year, but is still looking to add a 14th for that season. Long said the deadline to do so is "coming quickly."
Our source with knowledge of the television side of things said that executives are anticipating Missouri to play in the Southeastern Conference next year and that West Virginia would replace the Tigers in the Big 12. BYU and Louisville are also teams that have been mentioned for that spot. It is not out of the question the Big 12 could add all three, as the Kansas City Star reported earlier this week that the league would likely go back to 12 teams if Missouri were to leave.
All indications are that the Tigers indeed are on the way out. Closure could come as soon as Thursday evening.

Re: Rivals Mizzou site says they are gone
so we have to wait and see if Big 12 comes in and takes WVU/LV/ and or Cincy. I was hoping they would stay but seems unlikely. Only question is how big does Bevo 12 want to go? And will BYU agree this time.

What!? Wasn't that 14th spot in the SEC suppose to go to us!!
Big mistake Missouri, big mistake. No more Iowa States and Kansas teams to pad your win loss column on. Enjoy.

Mizzou is going to get owned in the SEC. Terrible decision.
Some people simply forget just how bad it was...

So the SEC got A&M a solid middle to upper part of the road program, and Missouri a middle to lower part of the road whipping boy. I'm sure Vanderbilt is excited to get them on the schedule.

This is horrible news we should give up on the big east now and start a Jamaican bobsled team.

Re: Rivals Mizzou site says they are gone
All along I've been saying that Mizzou to the SEC wasn't going to happen. Its starting to look more and more like I was wrong on that one. Assuming it does happen, I'm still shaking my head. I'm I crazy, or does this seem like a bad move for the SEC, for Mizzou, and for the state of Missouri?
1. For the SEC, I just don't understand adding a ho-hum state school program that is both culturally and geographically planted firmly in the midwest and has almost zero history competing against SEC schools. Their first choice was the Big-10. The only reason the SEC's in the picture is because the Big-10 said no. The TV market is nice, but not growing. Adding another team in the West also creates issues for Alabama and its traditional rivalries unless Mizzou plays in the east, which makes zero sense.
2. For Mizzou, it almost completely severs them from their Texas recruiting grounds (1 game every other year in College Station will be it). Unless I'm mistaken, the limited success Mizzou has had in the Big-12 has come largely on the back of Texas recruits. I see their football program's ability to compete declining even further than its current mediocre state. And Mizzou will lose out on its traditional rivalries with the Kansas schools.
3. For the State of Missouri, what happens when they lose the lucrative Big-12 championship games, etc. that have become significant to the local KC economy? In the SEC, Columbia, Missouri will be an outpost. Other than Mizzou home games, no big SEC events will be scheduled there.
Sure, the money in the SEC will be good. But will it be that much better than in the Big-12? Or is this just another example of a school willing to take any option just to get away from UT? I just don't get it. I think both Mizzou and the SEC will rue the day they joined forces.

They think they have to, because they cant risk UT taking their ball and going home and getting stuck with KU, ISU and baylor. This is a defensive move only - but one they think they cant pass up due to Big 12 uncertainty

unfortunately, it is the same defensive move that WVU and Louisville will be taking as well. They will not pass up a Big 12 offer. Big East looking more like it will be the cream of cusa and mwc, along with USF and Cincy, and Rutgers and Uconn if they don't get poached.
This Mizzou move may start the superconference talk all over again. Boes Big 12 take 3 more to get to 12?

Re: Rivals Mizzou site says they are gone
was really hoping the SEC would poach Clemson or someone else from the ACC instead. At that point, the ACC might have just taken Rutgers (BC opposition to Uconn) and called it a day. Big East would have largely been what we hoped it would be. Now, not so much if this happens with Mizzou.
