Bye Bye Blvd!!!

Just wondering if everyone outside of the greek system had heard about the new policy for students on the blvd. All students are required to get anbracelt at the flagpole if over 21 and showing state id and student one too. Then in order to get drinks every time the student wants one they must show their braclet and id to a bartender at the tents, and if they are thought to be gettting to many drinks they can be written a ticket. This is just another thing that is going to keep students away from the blvd and ultimately out of the stadium. I have talke dto friends in not just my fraternity and memebrs of SMU's IFC and there is big talk of a boycott of the blvd by greeks this weekend, which will not just look bad for b/c of lack of people, but will look terrible to the few alumni who like to come back and live up the college years while drinking some beers wiht the undergrad population. Way to go SMU taking away one of the few things that still gets people excited about SMU football and gamedays!!!

SMU's timing is excellent. Why don't we voluntarily drop to Div 1aa while we still have some dignity to avoid the embarassment of being forced there by the NCAA for lack of attendance.

I'll believe a boycott when I see it.

if drinking is your only motivation for going to a game, i will suggest AA counseling for you and the rest.

A few years ago the greeks threatened a boycott of the DC for all advertising due to some bad publicity the DC gave them, to their credit they followed through, I don't remember how long it lasted.

I will suggest you lighten up, grab a cold one and hit the 'vard to check out some hot chicks, if they aren't boycotting.

Can't you bring your own booze? Something tells me they'll find a way around it. Everyone has a fake ID, and they can;t require a student ID. How do you know is someone is a student or not. What's the difference between a 22 year old senior and a 22 year old who just graduated?
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

I dont think that drinking is the only reason behind tailgating, but for many it is more of an incentive to get out ther and show some spirit. Lets be realistic here and consider what motivates most college students to go out and tailgate. If drinking wasn't involved, many people would much rather stay at home or go somewhere else to fill the time before the game with viewing other games. I know that many people sacrifice viewing other games on tv that they want to watch in order to go out to the blvd drink some cold ones and socialize with other mustangs.

Any student wishing to drink must get the bracelet. I have an older brother who is coming in town and he is not planning on getting a bracelet and laughed when i told him the new policy. I will say that people will not be using fake ids to get bracelts bc it is police officers who are checking the ids to give them out, and they are going to have a master lsit of smu stufdents who are over 21, also after TABC busted more than 15 students last home game for drinking underage, i dont think many well have the balls to risk that one again...

You gotta understand the University's position on this one. Its a huge liability issue for them, especially with the increase of alcohol related deaths on college campuses over the past year.

Imagine if the University did nothing to police on campus drinking and then there was some incident. All the lawyers will be running from the polling places to the campus.

I totally understand the univeristy's policy and i get that this is changing nationwide, but what i am saying about how it will effect the students body's participation in the blvd and attendence at the games is true as well from what i can see. Of the many students who go to the games i think many will choose not to, becasue they will not be on the blvd and not have any real motivation to see a struggling team. I wish everyone had spirit and would go to the games anyways, and I will be at my last two games as an undergrad, but it is a sad fact this porbably wont happen.
