you think Ole Miss wants to add more juggernauts like Florida State or Clemson? Doubtful. Never know how the Arkies vote either. I don't think the SEC will ever go to 16, but if they did are we really too far down the list behind Missouri? Look i just hope our administrators and power alums don't have the same attitude as some of our fans.

can we at PonyFans please stop calling SMU the 'Vandy of the West'

RICE would be the Vandy of the West

SMU would be the University of Miami of the West....big difference

Rice / Vandy - average endowment $3.5B
Rice / Vandy - Top 30 schools academically

SMU / Miami - average endowment $1B+
SMU / Miami - Top 60 schools academically

Rice is the harvard of the south. Smu is the vandy of the west w more endowment.

I fully believe that TCU would turn down 35 million a year to get max 20 million a year in the big 12 and get stiffed by UT in 3 years.

No way TCU or anyone else would turn down the SEC unless they offered a small money deal.

FYI, look at the tv numbers between the big 12 and big east and tell me why west virginia would want to switch?

not talking only academics, but academics as it applies to athletic performance.

always felt the SMU's, UT's and USC's of the world were in the Sweet Spot in terms of academics / athletics. All have great academic reputations which can help sell a recruit.

Northwestern, Rice, Vandy are too brainy and it impacts their ability to field a competitive FB team. Stanford is the lone exception to this theory, but of course they are exceptional.

Most of Vandy's endowment is in their medical center and their enrollment is more similar to ours than to Rice's. Plus, they broke off from the Methodist Episcopal Church, South in 1912 at the same meeting that that organization officially chartered Southern Methodist University.

SMU is the Vandy of the West minus a medical school and with slightly less academic prestige. University of Miami is both larger in enrollment (10638 undergrads, 5289 postgrads) and poorer (endowment $618.2 mil) than SMU.

Rice is the Dartmount of the South.

Dartmouth endowment - 3.413 billion - no med school
Dartmouth enrollment - 4196 undergrads, 1791 postgrads

Rice endowment - 4.45 billion - no med school
Rice enrollment - 3485 undergrads, 2275 postgrads
