O Line
Was terrible in pass protection all night. JT Brooks got beat by the speed rush consistently & Turner was getting dominated. Bunch of False Starts too. Expected more from this group. Have to give the USM DC a lot of credit, he mixed the looks up all night & brought pressure when they needed it.

Re: O Line
USM had the bye week to prepare and to get healthy; even short handed, they showed us who the better team was last night

Re: O Line
The whole offense got man handled. No down the field stuff. We didn't stretch this D like we have others. And JJM was't very accurate on the short stuff.
Our worse offensive showing since A$M.

Re: O Line
The team strength became its weakest link last night. They looked slow and less experienced than they are. Did better at A&M.
JJ telegraphed worse than Padron. Surprised he did not have 5+ picks, TERRIBLE, and may have added to the O-line disaster.
The most painful observation; Our coaches were completely out coached. There seemed like a bend don't break approach to the defense rather than imposing their will, which with the correct scheme I believe our defense could.
In general the offense played scared led by a terrible o-line effort and a very bad QB night.
Get pissed and take it out on Tulsa and the rest of the season.
Bright spot: So. Miss. is better than their record suggests, way better!

Re: O Line
I expect this veteran group to bounce back and play well at Tulsa
we've done well against Tulsa in the past. Let's hope that trend continues.
This team still has a good chance to deliver it's best year under Jones

Re: O Line
I'm glad that the most experienced OL in NCAA football had like 8 false starts.
Good lord. That was embarrassing.

Re: O Line
And did June SERIOUSLY "expect" 5 of them going into the game ? Saw that somewhere in a postgame comment
Re: O Line
The false starts were bad, but I disagree that the offensive line played horribly. True, it wasn't the prettiest game for them, but Zach Line did run for 163 yards, and the big guys had something to do with that.
The Southern Miss defense was like A&M's -- very athletic, with a lot of time (bye week) to prepare. When our good players go against other good players, their guys are going to make some plays, too. Last night, they did.
Thankfully, we shouldn't face a defensive line again with that combination of size, speed, experience and a week off. I fully expect our big guys to have a strong showing at Tulsa next week.

Maybe he should have said "5 wouldn't surprise me"?? Southern Miss is a good team, moves its defensive guys around a lot and that place was loud as hell. It happens. As fans, we don't want it to, but it happens.
Beat Tulsa!

Re: O Line
I didn't think the place was particularly loud. The closed in somewhat, but ucf last year, atm & tcu much louder
Re: O Line
Another thing I couldn't help but notice: the difference in pace when we had the ball and when USM had the ball.
I HATE the run to the sidelines momentum killing strategy we have.
I LOVE their 14 second, good luck to the defense to get set again strategy they played.

Re: O Line
Yeah, and on the last drive after zachs long run June kills the mo by calling timeout..
Re: O Line
our Defense gave this team a chance win you just can't win when you get 3 points from 3 red zone trips. O line was poor but not terrible I think they did ok blocking but the false starts were maddening. The blame is 90% mcdermott's with his inaccuracy (which also go two of our more explosivve players hurt) 10% on June and the coach's because the kids looked flat and we ran way to many of the bubble screens after it was demonstrated there CB's were pimping our WR when they triedto block them
Re: O Line
I was disappointed in the lack of creative offensive plays. After the first half which thanks to our tough defense, we were much closer in score than we should have been, you would think we would do some creative thinking. Instead we stuck with the same stuff with one exception, the delayed draw to Zach on which he went 50 yards or so. That being said, we just got whipped by a better team, much like A$M game. Also on their last offensive touchdown, even my wife was screaming they will thrown the short pass outside. Come on, defense that play that they had run many times with great success. No one came up to play him. I think we'll do better against Tulsa as their defense is not as good as USM.
Re: O Line
Its not fair to place so much blame on McDermott. The OL was awful. They didn't block worth a [Gary Patterson]. JJ had milliseconds to throw on the majority of downs.
