Thoughts from S. MISS
Fun time hanging with the "road dogs", lots of stories (some over 17 seconds) and laughs. The End Zone was a really cool bar to hang at before and after the game. Those girls must have been thrilled to see folks from out of town! I was VERY disappointed in the Mustangs performance. USM was bigger, faster, stronger, out hustled us, out hit us, was much more aggressive, and just seemed to want it more. I haven't seen our sideline that dead in a long time. O-line got whipped, way too many penalties and mental mistakes (again). Missed tackles and poor underneath pass coverage. 3 points? Even a bad Navy team scored 35 on these guys. They came out and punched us in the mouth and kept pounding until the clock finally ran out. I don't think we responded well to the initial attacks. With the exception of a few like Ja Gared Davis and Zack Line, we didn't show a lot of fight. USM beat us up, and knocked three of our players out of the game. Time to regroup, and see what kind of men we have.

i think with all the Big East talk, we have a target on our back from everyone in CUSA. going to be tough from here on out. everyone wants to beat us badly.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Thoughts from S. MISS
This game should not have come as a shock to anybody. Southern Miss should by all accounts still be a couple steps ahead of us talent-wise, which they are, had a week off to prepare, and we shot oursleves in the foot, gving away the game. A few years ago this would have been an embarrassing blowout, we had a shot in this game.
Outside of that, we have to get bigger on the DLine and desperately need a break-away threat for the offense.

...and Taylor Reed freaked out for some reason. Not sure what the deal was there.
Recruiting question:
Does So Miss have a bunch of Juco's, transfers, or what? I don't following recruiting too closely nor care to. Was their class ranked high the last few years?
Physically and athletically, they are just better all around.

Another tidbit. Chase Hover has now missed two extra points, and two chip shot field goals in 7 games.

We were spread out, ( not by choice) probably at least 100.

Their stadium is pretty cool. Really like the design and wish ours was similar. A tiny bit like the new TCU design.

Not by choice at all. Was worried we were going to be sitting all alone surrounded by USM fans at first.
Enjoyed getting kicked in the back by a USM kid all night. Disappointed in the Stangs. Was hoping we would just win on a late field goal, definitely underestimated how good USM was.
Enjoyed the stadium and the experience of the vocal fans, not that it was sold out by any means with at least a 3rd of the top shelf empty, but was nice to see a stadium make a ton of noise. Have no desire to go back ever again though. Didn't have the best of times with the opposing fans, but that was to be expected.
Just hoping for a better showing in Tulsa.

Re: Thoughts from S. MISS
Definitely a poor game. In some ways reminded me of the ASU game a few years back. Just didn't look like we were prepared or wanted it. My guess is USM did some things unexpected. IF we see they again, that will not happen.
WE will need a much better effort Sat against Tulsa. We have to play much harder on both sides of the ball. And I think our team will feel motivated to do just that. A loss like this sometimes can embarrass a team into reality.
Going 11-1 was always a tough goal to achieve. It is very difficult for a team not quite there in depth to pull off a hard schedule undefeated. 10-2 or 9-3 is definitely possible and a great achievement. Have to beat Tulsa to do it though.

Re: Thoughts from S. MISS
they pointed out the smu "group" of fans on tv and it was truly depressing. I don't have any room to complain as I didn't find a way to make it there either, but props to you guys who did make it. Hope we get a quality win over tulsa and get this thing back on track before UH

I was proud that when USM was setting up for a kick, I could clearly hear "BLOCK THAT KICK" over and over. Way to go guys!!

Re: Thoughts from S. MISS
Definitely, a Come-to-Jesus game for the kids.
Actually, I thought we have a pretty mentally tough team. Down 10-0 early, it would have been easy for this group to pack it in. We've seen that routine in years past. As it stood, we went to the locker room with a chance.
Just never really had the ball in the third quarter. Plus, field position was rarely favorable in the game. I thought their secondary did an excellent job on our horizontal game. They tackled really well and shook off the blocks so there was no room for and YAC. And that's why I think Darius' absence wouldn't have mattered too much.
Plus, this is where the June Jones offense fails. In a physical game like this, you really have to grind to find a way. This offense just doesn't lend itself to that. On the possession that resulted in the JJ pick in the end zone, that's where it would have been nice to have that third and goal TE release play in the end zone. You need to find a way to get those 2-5 tough yards.
In any season, there will be 2-3 games where you just have to grind to win a game. SMU can't do that against a really physical team like USM.
Pretty good looking team Larry Fedora has. They kicked our fanny and made us like it.
But it's time to move on.
