Hey PF I don't care for S.T.A.L.'s posts either but I can't think of one single positive thing to say about SMU football except "we graduate our players and they are good kids". You might throw in "we have a really good little stadium" or "the BLVD is great (assuming the admin doesn't screw that up too)". There is nothing else positive about our situation or play. Most on this board would be happy with 1 more win this year. Hoping for a 2 win season is pathetic. If we ever won 4, we'd think we were bowl eligible.
SMU fans need to drink before games becasue the pain would be too much with no anesthetic

My wife (also an alum) and I flew to Dallas for the Tech game. With our infant, we are also flying in for homecoming. Yes, my wife has family in the vicinity, but when is the last time you paid $1500 plane fare to go to two games?

For you to accuse me of having zero school spirit is absurd. I regularly wear SMU sweatshirts to work on casual day. My wife and I give money to the school even though we are not loaded. Trashing me and Dickerson does not really make you a better fan. In fact, to anyone knowledgable about college football it really makes you look like a complete fool.

I agree with Stallion that this has become a time for some serious decisions. If we are to compete, we need to relax some recruiting standards. However, to gain the support it needs from the administration and faculty, people would have to see improvement on the field. The faculty clearly wants the program to end, and rejoice when the team loses. It is in this vain that we need to start hiring better coaches. Phil has been a failure, and everyone recognizes it (except for some zealous Bennett fans). To get administration concessions, the team has to start winning.

That is the point exactly. The short sightedness of the faculty needs to be ignored by the current administration. The PYE model, which created this, needs to be abolished. The faculty just doesn't see the benefits that Division 1 football and basketball brings to a university. National recognition is a major factor in academic recruiting and what better recognition than having your school on regional and national TV on Saturday afternoons.

There are a lot of very smart people who enjoy sports and want to attend a college that has good academics and entertaining sports. Without the Division 1 competitive teams, these people don't give SMU a second look. Why do you think enrollment at SMU is down after the DP? Is it because we want to be a smaller school? I think not.

If there is any truth to the rumors posted today, we might be back on track, and it only took 15 years to right this train.
Just send 'da money.
