I disagree. The teams are the ones that spend too much time changing them and making a big deal about it. The fans just want them to pick a good one and stick with it!
it's not the teams, it's Nike, Adidas, UA, etc. who are doing it. the schools get paid by those companies when they change them up. it's just like advertising. we're giving Nike brand impressions in this thread. so will everyone who sees those things on every message board, and espn may even mention it nationally.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Marketing... Don't you think Nike and the rest have done their Marketing homework and have come to believe there is more to selling jerseys, helmets than the basic primary colors.
The Fashion is the Statement and the Statement is "look at us we are unique". It shakes up the rigid, slaps them with change, and gives the young rebellious players their own "special" identity.
I like Fashion, I have been brain washed to like Fashion, and if Fashion is a draw to talent... Let's get into it while it is Fashionable and reap the rewards of being in Fashion.

Since so many teams are doing the alternate uniform thing, is it still unique?
Yes... as long as their design is a significant variation from the typical conservative status quo, I would say it is unique. Some I like some, some I don't.
Does SMU need to get freaky? No... Do we need to be open to an awesome new design, yes... If it's hot, hot, hot... let's lead with it.
i've seen several helmet mock-ups that have never seen the field. including our own matte black w/ red pony. sometimes i wonder if they just make one helmet to create internet buzz. it clearly works
