Re: Tsn article
Just written to make the case for Memphis and basically throws SMU under the bus.
Basically, all we have is the right coach hire and all Memphis needs is the same.

I didn't read it that way. If we had not hired JJ, AND changed some policies, we'd be Memphis right now. That's the point.

That's a spiffy looking SMU Blue with Red running Mustang jacket that June is sporting in that picture.

Re: Tsn article
You can't hire the Coach in the first place unless you offer him an even playing field. SMU is different from Memphis. Admission standards are not the problem at Memphis-their football facilities suck and believe it or not there really is not a whole lot of great players in Tennessee to recruit.

Re: Tsn article
I agree that the article attempts the usual Memphis tactic of throwing SMU under the bus. What is up with those people? Mystifying.
Re: Tsn article
he's a basketball writer people. what do you expect. us football people are severely undervaluing the basketball side of this. could be as big, if not bigger for our athletic program as a whole.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Re: Tsn article
I am willing to bet that SMU basketball loses money. Having Big East teams come to town has to bring in more casual fans. Not to mention the basketball tv deal.

Then what the hell is a basketball writer doing writing about football?

I would assume that it's very much like when '94 where women's clothing. Makes him feel sexy.
Re: Tsn article
I fear that this article overstates Memphis' cachet among the population there. They're a distant third behind Ole Miss and Tennessee in hearts and minds of the population. Their potential for growth is also not that great - they're the secondary school in the second tier university system in Tennessee in a declining, poor city. That said, their basketball is impressive and I'm sure we're all striving for Rick Pitino's approval of the conference realignment

Unless you have pictures, it never happened
Re: Tsn article
I can say with 100% certainty that very few people in Memphis (including Memphis alums and everybody else) give a crap about Memphis football. Basketball is the only thing going on there and a major reason is they play at FedEx Forum, which is a great spot.
Ole Miss, Tennessee, and the Cowboys are the only 3 football teams that city cares about. There is simply no football argument for Memphis... Unless something changes drastically and the end up in the top 15 or something but ha yeah right.
