So Cal: you're right. I'm worked up. Mrs CP is afraid I'm going to have a heart attack. I can't stand the thought of these guys losing this game and quite frankly, if they do...this one is on Bennett for that 2 pt attempt.
As I edit this post, we're headed to OT. We've NEVER won in OT. With our offense, it's hard to be confident. Tulsa has been here before...very recently!!! Advantage TULSA
OT here we goTied at the end of the game and then OT. The failed 2 point attempt put us into the OT.
Sam I Am
I will say right now...before we know the outcome...this has been the most entertaining game this year. I'm loving this. Pull it out, guys. Either way, I've got a neighborhood party to go to (going to be late) and plan on waking up to a beautiful day tomorrow. Winning & losing could just mean the difference in the level of hangover!!!
It is always more exciting when they score points.
By the way, not to beat a dead horse, but what game was it last year when Bennett also mis-managed the 2-point conversion?
Great job Mustangs!!! Jamey Harper may have saved Coach Bennett's job. Wonder if anyone will ask Bennett about that decision to go for 2 at that point of the game? I'd really like to hear the logic.
O.K. I'm better now. All is forgiven and I still want Coach Bennett to succeed and be here a long time. He's only a 3rd year head coach. Both players and head coach are still learning and growing. I'm going to party.
After reading the DMN and talking to a reporter friend who was in the locker room after the game .... it seems the coach penalties came down like this:
A play was over and Coach Gush stepped on to the field to meet freshman LB Wilton McCray to correct him on something. The whistle had long since blown. The play was over. Coach Gush was only a few feet on the field - every team has coaches do this in every game. Normally, if the officials are intent on showing how important they are, they offer one of those ridiculous "sideline warning" flags (when, in fact, they should just stop the clock and come over and TELL the coaches to stay on the sideline). Apparently Coach Bennett thought it was a sideline warning (no yardage marked off), and when he found out that the officials had slapped 15 yards on Coach Gush, he went nuts - and rightly so. The first call was wrong. The second flag, on Coach Bennett, seemed to me to be similar to when Coach Bennett charged the Tech bench in the opener. In that case, he showed his team he was in the game WITH them. In this case, he stood up for Coach Gush. I didn't like the decision to go for 2 (although if we'd made it, we're not having this debate), but despite the 30 yards, I like the fact that Coach Bennett stood up for Coach Gush on that ridiculous flag. Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
