Why even bring up the cat (not Oscar)? Jones has forgotten more football than the man with the former moustache knows.
I am still a Jones fan on the field (outside i.e. the geldings are another matter).
There is something intangible going on and it may be teammate against teammate (that is pure speculation). Teams just don't play unispired unless SOMETHING is going on or they have given up on the season (and we sure have seen that on the Hilltop over the last 25 years).

The 2010 schedule was much tougher than the 2011 schedule. NW St, a 1-AA team is worst than Wash St in 2010, UTEP here in 2011 is worse than UTEP in El Paso with home-cooking refs, Memphis is plain horrible, TCU of 2011 is not the #2 ranked team of 2010, UCF in 2010 is the C-USA champion and beats Georgia in the Liberty Bowl. The 2011 team loses to UAB. Tulsa both years are about the same. The 2010 team tied us for the West Div title in 2010 and killed Hawaii in the bowl game. This year's team is on the same pace. Think Houston will win. Tulane and Rice are about the same. Navy in 2010 beat Notre Dame and went to a bowl. 2011 team gets routed by Notre Dame and probably wont be bowl eligible. The only team tougher in 2011 is Houston. Guess what? The 2010 team killed us last year at our place. God only knows how many points Case Keenum will put on us in Houston. 2010 schedule is far tougher than 2011. The 2 Big 12 teams we've played the past 2 years are a wash.

Because I step back from the edge and think '5-3, best team in 20 years' but we sucked so amazingly on offense the last two games, maybe we are really not good. As a comparison, how would that 6-6 team do?
I agree that something is going on. 60 passing yards and 40% completion at the half vs Tulsa? Can't be real.
"I think Couchem is right."

I agree somewhat with what you are saying about our opponents not having as strong a team as last year (especially true about TCU) but disagree that last year's schedule was tougher. We got USM, Houston and Tulsa on the road this year; also has to travel to A&M and TCU. Coming in, I figured we would lose all of those and was hopeful we could sneak one road win from among that grouping (will admit I thought Tulsa might be our best shot because we beat them last time up there). So far, that's what we've done. On the home schedule, we have UCF and Navy and I figured a good chance we could lose one of those games.
We are about where I expected/hoped we would be but I remain optimistic that these guys might pull off an 8-4 season. If they could then win the bowl game, it's the best finish since the death penalty and hopefully recruiting momentum remains positive.
Watching highlights of WV at Rutgers is a reminder that in the future, these road games could be played in some pretty rough conditions in the future. Anyone remember how miserable that Navy road trip was in JJ's 1st year?

Remember we beat Tulsa on the road in 2009 with a rookie QB. In 2010 we won on the road against E. Carolina when we absolutely had to win, and we won with a 1 legged QB. Going on the road is tough, but good teams win on the road. Leadership wins those games. No leaders to speak of this year.
