Dale slams the 2-pt call

Postby GoRedGoBlue » Sun Nov 07, 2004 11:47 pm

And he was right...there's nothing that 13 points does for you that 12 doesn't with 10 minutes to go (there wasn't enough time for a TD and 2 FGs really) ...but 11 points puts you within reach of a TD and FG. Which happened.

Not only that but how many 2 pt conversions have we made in the last 3 years ?? ANY???

Wouldn't you be considering the law of averages on how many 2 pt conversions you've made vs. extra points?

Maybe Bennett needs a big calculator beside him during the games.

Wait, isn't that exactly what would have happened if we wouldn't have blocked the field-goal?

BTW, Dale has gotten so much mileage out of bashing SMU, it's ridiculous. He has no credibility with me.

The only explanation for 13 over 12 points is not wanting to be beat by a TD and 2 FGs, which is not real likely...forgetting the fact that 11 pts can get Tied by 1 TD (8pt) and a FG.

I can't stand Dale Hansen as much as the next guy.

BUT, there is no excuse and no way in h#%l we should have went for two. My wife was sitting with me in the stands and even asked why?

This week would have been much worse than last week losing a 27-7 lead by running on first and second down in the second half and going for two.

Thank you Jamie Harper and Cedric Dorsey!

Well, I hated the decision at the time, but as events turned out it might have saved us the game. This is twisted, downtrodden SMU fan logic I realize, but had we gone up 12, Tulsa would have never kicked the 47 yarder. Instead, they would have gone for it on 4th and 3 and could have easily made it and quickly scored a touchdown. Then, when they come back and scored that final td as they did, it would have been for the win, not the tie. We could have easily never gotten to OT. The 11 point lead basically bated them into playing for the tie. I think Steve Kragthorpe was just pissed about it. I cant believe he said what he did to the press, coaches never do that kind of thing to each other.

I missed what Kragthorpe said. What did he say. It would be kind of nice to get a good heated rivalry going with Tulsa.

He was quoted in the paper saying he couldnt understand why Bennett went for 2 because Kragthorpe's chart says the opposite. He said he was glad he was give a chance at the OT. But it just sounded bitter. I have a friend who is a Nebraska fan and he made a point of telling me he couldnt believe any coach said what Kragthorpe did publicly no matter the circumstance.

HoopFan,

Not that it matters. BUT, it was was 4th and 12, not 4th and 3. They would have had to go for it on 4th and 12 where the odds were in our favor for a stop and the game would have been over. No matter how you look at it, it was the wrong call. Luckily our guys rallied, and that is what really matters.

O.K. - it is now well documented the guy made a mistake - should we schedule the public flogging for Friday afternoon on the Blvd?, or perhaps a stoning is more appropriate? Sheez - lets move on already - I think we won the game didn't we?

By the way - Dale Hansen is a fat, lazy, sloppy, abnoxious, drunk, and boring low-life who has outlived whatever usefullness he ever had - his schtick is sooooo last century - Belo needs to make a move.

This is not the first mistake made by Bennett. In fact, our all knowing God of Football even made a point last week of declaring his coaching genius.

PerunaPunch wrote:When questioned about his coaching ability Bennett fired back something to the extent of "I understand your frustration, and there's probably a lot of things you might take issue over. But my ability to coach is beyond reproach. I've probably forgotten more about football than everybody in this room combined knows about the game."

Apparently he doesn't know as much as he claims and apparently when he was earning that BA in Education at TAMU, Math was not a required subject for football players(how little things have changed).

If Dale is against it, I'm for it! Big stupid drunk jerk made a name for himself by blowing the whistle on SMU. What are you people doing listening to Dale anyway. If you're an SMU fan, you certainly wouldn't be caught dead watching that twit's show.

Besides, we won. It's done. Get over it. There's so many positive things to discuss, why dwell on one tiny footnote of the game that didn't make a bit of difference in the end? If you want to be negative and stew on things that DID matter, talk about busted assignments and the BS sideline call(s).

Bring on Nevada!
