"Blueprint" for stopping RNS/JJMcD
Heard them mention this on the radio, I think in late third quarter about there now being a "blueprint out there how to stop this offense".
I thought that was one of the strengths of Jones' offense. If you do A, we do B. If you do B, we do C, etc. etc. etc...
Is this more a comment on our current QB situation? Much like when Pardon came in for BLM, there was no tape on him for other coaches to game plan off of. After a few games, things got a bit tougher on him, now the same is happening to JJMcD?
What are others' thoughts on this.

I think the offense we put out there the last 2 weeks has been stale and expected. We need to open up the playbook a bit more. We also need a better QB.

The bubble screen was smothered every single time. Line finally got going - sure wish we could do an I formation for him with some blocking by a FB. How about some Jared Williams please for some variety.

How is K.C. Nlemchi doing? Seems like the highest rated RB we have had in a while but no playing time. Is he being red-shirted at this point? Line is great but a change of pace back or a few two back plays would be a great addition given our troubled passing game.

I heard he was hurt but nobody has mentioned him in a long time. Redshirt, yes.

Next year we will have two Lines and hopefully a healthy K.C which would be the quickest of the bunch. Have to be able to do something with that, at least be able to get touchdowns when playing less than a few yards from the end-zone. Left a few points off the board at the USM game dues to no goal line packages. Still don't have a RB as fast as McNeal was for us, but it is hard to get one when the R&S relies primarily on a larger slower SuperBack.

The offense itself is adaptive and allows the O Coordinator the "chalk last," meaning that he gets last say. You can run deception to confuse the reads that are vital to making this O work, but generally speaking there never was a solid "this is how you beat it" solution found to defeating the RnS. But that's purely X's and O's, not necessarily tuned to our personnel.
I didn't see Tulsa, it wasn't presented online. But I saw TAMU, and I was at USM.
We got behind at TAMU based on poor decisions early by Padron, and then they physically beat us. Shouldn't be a surprise, despite their record A&M is loaded with athletes. We also made our own mistakes. X's and O's go out the window when you beat yourselves and your players get physically beat.
At USM, I would say they shut down our deep threat, kept pressure on our QB, and made us earn every bit of the middle. But it was competive even then - it was the mistakes that killed it. Missed FG, missed open receivers, a couple of drops. And overall USM had more speed and size than we did.
But we had questions coming into the season about our outside WR's - you can look up the threads. Our O-line has been hit-and-miss, and our starting QB is a transfer from NEW MEXICO STATE. I'm not knocking the kids, because they have done a lot better than most recruits would with a different coach, but I will keep saying this until our higher-rated later recruiting classes prove me otherwise, and that's OUR PLAYERS POUND FOR POUND ARE NOT EQUAL TO THE BEST TALENT IN CUSA.

Blueprint: Watch our receivers drop easy catches. Watch our QB throw the ball to the other team. Watch our lineman commit bizarre penalties and leak like a sieve.
Run N Shoot stopped. What a blueprint.

JJ is staring down his receivers every time. I don't see him going through any progressions. It's almost like he has decided where he is going out of the huddle. His release is also slow as anything and almost sidearm slotted through some of the motion. He stinks. It's a shame Kyle had three bad passes and misses his shot at leading the team to a great season. We will be better when we have a better QB. June has yet to have a Colt Brennan, or Timmy Chang quality QB at SMU, when he gets that, we will kill it.

Re: "Blueprint" for stopping RNS/JJMcD
Does it really matter if he's staring anybody down if the throw never gets there anyway? In all seriousness though, while the playcalling also was terrible, this was a perfect example of the personnel running the system performing at an embarrassing low level in all aspects of the game, and not the system itself. They could have been running the three-kneel-downs and punt offense, and if they executed at the level they did Saturday they wouldn't have been able to do it.

Reminds me of the Ticket promo for the Cowboys last week...
"If we run the ball, there is only a 5% chance that Romo will give the ball to the other team"

What has happened to McD? I watched a good portion of your last 2 games and it is in no way the same guy who played against TCU. Every throw was on the money...now he is missing all over the place. Do you think there was too much focus on TCU and to a lesser extent UCF and the team just wasn't able to sustain the emotion required to keep performing/winning? This is what I suspect and it is a big part of building a program.
One other thing...does June even care? I watch him on the sidelines and there is zero emotion. I know you guys bag on Gary and he can be over the top but I have no doubt that he is focused and passionate about winning.

Blueprint
play a good team on the road after their break, on homecoming, when you and they think you are all that, and you have a conference change target on your back, and get behind early, and there you go.

McD certainly didn't put every throw on the money against the toads (only completed 51 percent of his passes), if he had then we would have blown them out. A lot of his throws were poor and Darius Johnson bailed him out quite a bit. The team likely started to buy into their own hype coupled with the BE buzz, the fact is they're not that good and have been blown out every time they've faced a good team this season. June cares about winning but he cares about doing things his own way more and sometimes that gets in the way of winning.

Re: "Blueprint" for stopping RNS/JJMcD
Bottom line, it is tough to win on the road in conference when you are just starting to build up a program. June even said last week "we need to sneak out of here with a win." Tulsa is a good team and has played an incredible OOC schedule.
I think we underestimated how good USM and TU would be this year, and probably started reading our own press (top 25 votes, Big East move, etc).
And with the RnS offense, so much depends on the accuracy of the QB. When he is off, we have very little chance of winning. JJMcD needs to get back on track. Oline needs to get their act together. Wrs need to catch balls. D will be better when Reed returns. Beat Tulane, become bowl eligible, and start a new winning streak the week after against Navy. Go into UH on a roll.
