Can't be all QB
This far into Jones' regime, 3 QBs, and still no big offense. We didn't just lose, we had 40% completion and less than 70 yards in first half passing. That's Navy nbers.
June had big O his first year in Hawaii with a QB coming off 2 consecutive 0 win seasons. What is our problem?

Guess what the common denominator is???? The play caller.......
Re: Can't be all QB
This WAS against the 112th ranked Pass defense in the NCAA BTW. ( Tulsa out of 120 teams)
Re: Can't be all QB
June had a talented veteran team that first year at Hawaii and even then the passing game wasn't hitting on all cylinders (QB only completed 50 percent of his passes and threw 18 picks).

You know what happens when you throw the ball 500+ times a year?? A few picks. Kp threw 502 passes last year and had 14 picks. 2% of his passes or 1 per game. McD is on pace to throw the same 18 as the Hawaii QB, roughly 4% or 1.3 picks per game. Bottom line....Darrell Royal was right. When you throw the ball 3 things can happen and 2 of them are bad.

Yeah picks are expected with that many passes but TDs are too, you throw that much and you better have at least 2 TDs for every pick.

The guy is just wild right now. It sucks but we're not going to do any better if he can't make NY passes.

This. McD has more picks than TD's right now. NOT GOOD! granted some of them are of receivers, none the less, thats part of the game.

Re: Can't be all QB
8 games into the season and our QB has 10 td passes and 11 INTs? Amazing. Give the ball to Line 30 times a game and pass when we need to. Crap. Even the A&M game started off great by running the ball. Give it to those who produce. Receivers dropping balls make QBs look horrible. No names, you know who they are....
Re: Can't be all QB
Tulsa's o-line and d-line are just about as big and much more experienced than ours (5 lbs doesn't mean anything if the lighter guy has better technique &/or more experience). They have 10 guys they can rotate in at o-line with very little drop in performance. We have 8 guys and a big drop after that.
Their d-line overpowered our o-line all day and forced JJ to make quick (& bad) decisions all day. For every sack, there were 3 or 4 near misses.
Their o-line ran right at our d-line's throat and dominated. They thought so "highly" of us they practically abandoned their spread offense, lining up at "Power I" formation. Even when we knew they were running it, they still made first downs. The closest we got to doing anything right (forcing a 4th & goal on 1), they just lined up again and hit the opposite gap and scored.
Their huge H-back outran anyone we put on him (LB, CB, Safety) and got wide open again and again.Their QB ran at will, juking would-be tacklers for first downs and extra yardage on busted plays (who apparently hadn't run well all season, hampered by injury).
They had like a dozen RBs who all ran well - a big power guy and several other fast guys who were able to run and make screens at will against our "bigger, faster" defense without even throwing vertical for most of the game. TU didn't even throw down the field except for a couple "dart" passes. They are usually a deep passing team. They out-manned us with basic short plays. They had no need to risk throwing deep (it was really windy!!).
Their crazy CB pushed our WRs around and jumped routs, intercepting 3 passes in the first half! Their athletic d-line ruined most every passing play and shut down Zach Line for the first half. Sure he had some yards in the 3rd Q but it was too little too late and it was more them playing back (to not give up big plays) then us stepping up. How did that work out? On one drive, we got to 4th down 3 times and another 3rd and 17... It took over 7 minutes and ended with them making a goal-line stop. So zero points, just like the "mercy drive" at the end which was picked off.
SMU has been decent for 2 seasons, and hopefully this is the 3rd. Tulsa has been decent going back to 2003 (they had 2 rough seasons, but if we consider "7-7" decent they have far exceeded that most years). Tulsa was like 10-3 and top-25 last year (we are lucky we beat them 21-18 at home) and if you paid attention to C-USA, you'd know they won 10+ games a bunch of years. They have been one of the top "teams to beat" like Houston. We always played them well, even when they were undefeated and ranked one year. Now they crushed us.
BTW, Tulsa deserves some respect and credit. It wasn't like we "gave" it to them. They won the game. We lost it but mostly they won it. They are a good team. Their only losses are to: #5 OU, #3 OSU and #6 Boise State. Those 3 teams would crush us. We couldn't even compete with (now unranked) A&M. TCU was a great win but they are also unranked.
So SMU did well against some mediocre and bad teams and had a big win against DFW rival TCU. Couldn't even remotely compete with 2 of the top-3 teams in C-USA.
