Who's our best 3 point shooter?

Postby A-town Pony » Tue Nov 09, 2004 12:49 pm

We've struggled from the 3 point arc over the years. Do we have a player that can potentially shoot 33% or better from behind the arc this year? If so, having a shooter will do nothing but improve our inside play w/ Ike, Castro & Simpson with our new found ability to stretch the defense. If my memory is correct, wasn't Elsey the last pure 'shooter' to play significant minutes?

Hopkins shot over 40% from 3 point range last year.

Miller was a great 3pt shooter in high school but has had injuries that have affected his shooting since being on the Hilltop. Not sure what his status will be this year.

Derrick Roberts has been a very good all around shooter including 3 pt shooting in high schoo. He is currently recouping from a leg injury.
If he is all right, he should be an excellent scorer.

I think it was David Peeler.

Woods was the last automatic from 3 point land if I remember correctly. That little kid from Nevada could light it up last year. We need a JJ Reddick...haha.

A Matter of Tense

The question was - Who IS our best 3 point shooter.

Not who WAS.

Pieler was a great shooter but they did not have a 3 pt line then.

Actually - Gene Phillips was the greatest long range bomber we
ever had in my humble opinion. He once scored 52 points on Texas'
home floor.

But back to the current team - I believe my original comments
are correct - behind B-HOP - you would have Roberts and Miller-
if both recover from their injuries. I have seen Castro, Simpson,
and Isham - all hit 3's when they were needed, but I wouldn't want them to try too many of them because they are inconsistent.

MustangStealth said it best. Hopkins is our best 3-point shooter. Miller was out and he can shoot a good 3-pointer as well. I know Isham and Simpson can make one every now and then. I hope Pearson can do better from behind the arc this year. I see potential in that guy.
We must shake the \"snob\" reputation. Bring Dallas back to SMU.
