Lets get this guy as well
WR Jones elects to transfer
By Carter Strickland
AUSTIN, Texas -- Chris Jones has decided to leave the Texas football program.
The redshirt freshman wide receiver is the third player to transfer from Texas since the start of school. The other two were quarterbacks Connor Wood (Colorado) and quarterback Garrett Gilbert (SMU).
"This was a very tough decision, but I want to get closer to home for personal reasons with my family," Jones said in a released statement. "I love Texas, and I've been with these guys for two years, and we're family, but things don't always go according to the plan that you make."
Jones came to Texas after a highly decorated prep career at Daingerfield (Texas) High School. He helped Daingerfield to back-to-back 2A Division II State Championships and a 30-2 record from 2008-09. In that span, he recorded 64 catches for 1,475 yards and 17 TDs and 611 rushing yards and nine TDs.
"We appreciate everything Chris has done for the program," head coach Mack Brown said in a statement. "He felt he needed to be closer to his family and we understand and respect that. We wish nothing but success for him in the future."
Jones, who has not yet decided where he is transferring, never became a viable option for Texas at wide receiver. After redshirting, he watched as freshman Jaxon Shipley and Miles Onyegbule make strides with the offense through the first seven games.
Jones had not seen any action in 2011.
Texas, which is thin at wide receiver, has a commitment from Cayleb Jones, a top three wide receiver in the ESPNU 150. Texas is also still in the hunt for the nation’s top prep receiver Dorial Green-Beckham.

Where is Daingerfield? I wonder if SMU is any closer to his home?

East Texas, we're actually the closest FBS program to Daingerfield. Though he did have a TCU offer out of HS.

He got an unconditional release right? Doesn't that mean he can go anywhere?

Re: Lets get this guy as well
Nope even with unconditional transfer he would have to sit out 2 years by Conference rule to transfer to another Big 12 team. This really could work out for SMU if he wants to be close to home.

Based on that scouting report, it sounds like he'd be a great fit in our offense. Let's hope he and Gilbert are good buddies

In that case it looks like a slam dunk. He would get to stay close to home, only sit out a year and play for an AQ team that throws the ball a lot.
