SMU quarterback J.J. McDermott said the chipped bone in his foot that has led to him watching practice with a protective boot on his foot will not keep him from playing in Saturday's game against Tulane.
McDermott said he suffered the injury to one of the metatarsal bones in his foot "sometime in the second quarter" but played through the discomfort.
"I'm fine," McDermott said. "I was kind of tackled from behind, and my foot got flexed forward. I'm pretty sure that's when it happened."
The foot remains sore enough that he has watched the first two practices this week with a protective boot on his foot, but he said if he didn't have to leave Saturday's game against Tulsa, there is no way he won't play this weekend against the Green Wave.
"I just had to ride that out," he said of the discomfort after the injury. "I finished the game the other day, and I'll play this week. If I can still walk, I'll be out there."

That's what QBs do. Play hurt. Not the first time that's happened. Suck it up and play.

Oops. My apologies. Should have known it wasn't the traditional spelling.

Yawn. Let's don't stay on topic. Imagine that.

McDermott is no Michael Vick in the speed department, but even traditional pocket passers have to be able to move some. I would think this injury (like anything that involves any kind of break to a bone) is painful.
Thanks, J.J., for having the grit to play through pain.
