Defending the option (Navy)

Post by dirtysouthpony »

Alabama is giving a clinic right now on the defense of the option. I hope our coaches are watching.

If we had Bama's athletes we could do some major stopping ourselves.

Where is Coach Shulman?? Couldn't we hire him for a week. I believe I remember he defensed the Option beautifully.

I still feel good about this game. We have a front 7 that is experienced in seeing the offense with the exception of Stephon and he will do well on his ability alone. Secondary needs to be alert yet prepared to support, and offense needs to score. We should have beaten then the past 3 years. This year we do it.

yep, we have a potentially better functioning offense, and ricky dobbs is gone. should be able to nail it this time.

Sure we can. Reed and Rodgers tackle the fullback each play. Thompson and Frazier blast the quarterback each play. JG and Sanders blow up the pitchman every down. Secondary cover your man. Basic assignment football.

I think we're better prepared to do so than we have been the last few years. More depth on dl and our LB's can move.

We simply need to outscore them. Few teams actually stop the option. They are still 3rd in the Country in Rushing. They have some issues in the secondary and with team speed. We need to stretch the field this week for sure. Go get the film from Navy/Southern Miss

I've missed the home games against navy the last few times. Would be great to see a W this time.

Stallion's right. They're always going to get their yards. We need to finish drives and hold them in their red zone opportunities.

Please do not construe my statement t mean we will stop the option. They will make yards but I think they will have to work very hard to get them and hopefully we can cause some turnovers. We do need to be prepared to score a lot but I think our defense has improved each year we have played them.
