Marta Lesniak Wins USTA/ITA National Indoor Championship
Lesniak Wins 7-5, 6-1 In Championship Match

Nov. 6, 2011

FLUSHING, N.Y. (SMU) --- No. 10 Marta Lesniak won the USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championship with a 7-5, 6-1 victory against No. 26 Joanna Mather of Florida in the final on Sunday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Lesniak won five matches in four days en route to the title. She topped four opponents ranked No. 26 or higher, including two ranked in the top five. Lesniak is now 17-3 on the season and 102-18 (.850) for her career. She moves her into third at SMU in career wins and ranks second in career winning percentage.

Is she the best athlete at her sport on campus?

Admittedly, there are some teams I know nothing about, other than the press releases that get posted here, but I'd say she has to be right there with Zach Line, Fortoft (sp) â€” the runner, and probably a men's soccer player, although I don't know which one (maybe Ivo).
