So much for people boycotting Dickerson...

Postby Peruna_Ate_My_Rolex » Fri Nov 12, 2004 12:47 am

Found this on sportsillustrated's web site. Check out who is the #2 player for Retro jerseys.

Fame is fickle. Compare the top-selling NFL jerseys now and five years ago and only Favre's remains a fave. But Donovan McNabb -- ninth on today's list -- seems to have the celeb vote.

TOP JERSEYS 1999
1. BRETT FAVRE
Packers

2. TROY AIKMAN
Cowboys

3. RANDY MOSS

4. PEYTON MANNING

3. BRETT FAVRE

2. ERIC DICKERSON

Sure would be nice if the SMU Spirit Shop were to carry some 'retro' jerseys of famous SMU players: Walker, Rote, LeVias, etc. I'd buy 'em!

Ya think ED would allow us to us his name on a jersey without being paid?

Ya think any of them would?

LeVias, Walker and Rote were pre name on jersey era players, just their numbers are needed. We all know who 37 is. But I think LeVias would consent without blinking. I don't thing ED would. So perhaps just a #19 royal blue SMU jersey is all that would be needed.

Peruna,

I agree with you that LBL's boycot is rather silly. However, just from my own cultural vantage point, I doubt that it is SMU grads that are buying the retro jerseys. It does not seem to me like the retro jersey demographic lines up with the SMU demographic.

I wasn't trying to make the assertion that SMU grads are buying the Dickerson retro jerseys just as I seriously doubt that everyone who is a tar heel alum buys a Lawrence Taylor jersey. My reason for posting this was that I just found it rather interesting that ED's jersey is a top seller and thought I would tie it with the "boycott" post that was made earlier this week.

Anyone notice that on all of the retro ED jerseys, the color is right, the number is right, the name is right, but turn it around and...guess what? No SMU on the front.

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with SMU refusing to license stuff? I can't tell you the number of times I've shopped for apparel and the like, and after seeing Baylor stuff, Texas stuff, aTm stuff, hell even UH stuff, I ask why they don't have SMU & they say SMU is hard to get stuff from because they don't generally license as much as the other schools.

Fine,

I just don't think it is good to stereotype the players as stupid. At least give the name of the player who asked you to play "dat song."
