Pony Exce$$ got a higher rating than 9 of those bowls.
and this is what ESPN said about the CUSA this bowl season.
Conference USA, 2-4. C-USA had the worst showing of all 11 conferences. UCF had a big win over Georgia, but East Carolina got embarrassed in a loss to Maryland and Southern Miss blew a big lead to Louisville. Meanwhile, SMU had three turnovers against Army, in a game also played on their home field because of renovations to Amon G. Carter Stadium.

Yours is a very obvious conclusion, one that I'm surprised the original writers of the article did not come to. Thanks for pointing this out.
Last year the Armed Forces Bowl was on Dec. 31. Moving it back a day did not help it ratings wise.
The Rose Bowl was moved to ESPN this year after being on ABC forever.
AFB played on Thursday 11cst both years.
Yes, both were played on Thursday, but this year it was on the 30th and last year it was on the 31st. More people are off on the 31st than the 30th allowing for a bigger possible TV audience.

And that, ladies an gentleman, is an enormous reason behind the low numbers. We have perfectly captured the mind-set of the American college football fan that doesn't go to SMU/USMA.
Armed Forces Bowl received a 1.33 rating - just .01 higher than the lowest rated bowl, the New Orleans Bowl.
bump.
Hawaii Bowl is middle of the pack rated bowl. Unfortunately, TicketCity does not show it's rating. Armed Forces bowl is a weekday bowl game. Hawaii is primetime, national tv when no other sports are playing.
For TV purposes, I'll take Hawaii.

One thing I'm sure of-when you win the Hawaii Bowl your highlites are replayed more on ESPN because there is nothing else for them to cover on Christmas Eve and Day. So not everybody saw the game but they pumped us up pretty good on the highlites
