but i think we need to move up and playing in Hawaii is the same old thing - with June having yet another opportunity to act like he is Hawaiian when he is from friggin Oregon.
When do they get to feel like a rock star? Maybe if we showed our loyal fans some appreciation there would be more of them.
Whoa there Pony... I believe your attempt to define June Jones is all wrong... I don't see anything in his demeanor to resemble him trying to be anything other than a Re-Builder of Programs, definitely not a rock star. June still feels there is a long way to go until he will be satisfied with his work. He reminds us often that "WE are not there yet".
June knows better than Ponyfans what he has right now and what is still missing. Of course he also has an ego and he does not like that which is still missing and what it has cost him personally. An example, his reputation of "always bringing a high powered offense" that primarily comes from a qualified quarterback. That definition of June has not been published since mid season last year.
June Jones committed himself to SMU and it was not the money, money means next to nothing to him. June Jones understands the Marketing and Promotion of football. Three years ago Hawaii wanted a match-up and June said, later. Now, I believe, he feels he has a team that can win that game.. June Jones Priority is still work in progress, teaching his kids how to WIN, implanting the WINNING mentality on the team. A mentality that has taken a serious set back since the downward spiral last year and the let down by the fans after TCU . We are now where we were before the Nevada game.
He knows the team must win it's bowl this year. He knows SMU Football needs to recapture the same energy which SMU derived from beating Nevada in Hawaii. He is "The Coach" who knows how to take a team to Hawaii and keep them focused and win in a very hostile environment full of distraction where BCS schools are often afraid to go. Playing Nevada in Hawaii is not relevant to the possible R&S cage fight against the entire Hawaiian population and the potential buzz that would be created and the reward a big win would bring. Just pole college fans accross the country, ask them if they would like to see a fight with Hawaii.........
As for those who think "June Jones thinks he is Hawaiian" that is laughable to the Islanders who know him, I am sure. Yes he understands, respects and loves the cultures of the Hawaiian, Samoan and Tongan but the Islands are his home and final resting place. The Hawaiians in particular "return the respect to him and have honored him with inclusion to their Ohana (family), something very few earn and June values that honor very much. Many SMU people don't understand this and often sound like a jealous spouse.
Trust June, be patient, support him, he knows what he is doing, the missing pieces are on the way, SMU Football Relevancy is his Capstone, he won't quit until it is accomplished.
