Re: Wtf penn st?
Paterno told the Perp in front of a victim, that he would not become head coach...., he was retired then with benefits, as if administration did not want to raise a stink. Could he have been doing a Barney Frank type threat to expose others within the organization? Then he continues using Penn facilities and I can't believe only the janitor and one assistant were the only ones to see the same behavior going on. After the janitor identified him in the parking lot, the Perp kept driving around in the parking lot until three in the morning, intimidating the janitor and the janitor feared for his JOB. What does that tell you about the environment at Penn? Then he writes the book, "Touched". I bet Paterno has a signed copy.

Sorry Mrydel, but I strongly disagree.
There is a very simple criteria here.....if it was his OWN SON, would he have done more. Do you really believe he would have been satisfied that he had done 'all he needed to do'?
Answer is he would have done more to protect his OWN SON and brought the perp to justice, which tells me Papa Joe was concerned more about Penn State and his own legacy than the well-being of that little boy and others after him.
Maybe he didn't do anything criminal....let's see how it shakes out, but I will say this....as much as I despise attorneys, I hope some good ones files a big civil case against Penn State and Papa Joe.

Re: Wtf penn st?
You could be very right. The point I was trying to make and apparently did it poorly, is that I see no way he can do anything but resign. I do not know how he can wake up in the morning and function knowing what he could have done initially. Whether or not he thought he was doing right or if he was protecting PSU is past. Going forward, if he has any type of conscience, he has to step down, and may well have criminal liability before all is completed.

agree that resigning now would be the right thing to do.
personally don't think he will do it, which will further tarnish his 'image'
still waiting for other shoe to drop, ie more boys to come forward....no way Sandusky only had 8 victims.

Re: Wtf penn st?
I know I am going to get beat up over this. So let the fur fly.
So first, if true this pervert and those involved in activates that enabled the perverted activities to continue deservers the full extent of punishment possible. Next, I can’t stand Joe Paterno and would love nothing more than to see him frogged marched in chains from his office to prison.
My issue is I don't have all the facts. As a former Jury Foreman of a death penalty case, I have learned that what is in the papers are not always the facts presented in court. Also, that the courts abide by strict procedures in certain cases (such as the DP case). I would assume it is so here. Also, large organizations have policies and procedures to address these issues. These are designed to be in accordance with law, to protect all involved and provide safeguards against abuse of both victim, accuser and those within the organization.
Unless one has actually witnessed the foul act, then their obligation is to report to the appropriate authorities within the system for further action. To go to the police with nothing but hearsay might not be a fruitful as many might desire. False accusations based on hearsay are alleged all the time. The accusation doesn’t make it so. It has to be investigated. In essence, they are then charged to determine if the accusations are valid or not. This isn’t limited to perverts preying on small boys, but for those accused of sexual harassment, fraud and a variety of other acts.
From what I can tell thus far, Joe Paterno didn’t witness any of the acts. Thus, his obligation was to report to the appropriate authorities within Penn State to deal with the accusation which it appears he did. Thus he would have fulfilled his legal obligation.
Should he have done more is a question many can’t answer because we don’t have all the facts. If the only thing was an accusation, then Paterno isn’t in a position to act other than report it to those trained and prepared to perform an investigation. There was a considerable amount of consternation rained upon the neighbors of one Jeffery Dahmer because they didn’t pick up the unusual activates associated with Dahmer. The problem is that ordinary folks are not trained to identify Anti Social Personality Disorder serial killers.
Joe Paterno is trained to coach, not identify and investigate hanus sexual crimes.
So it is possible for Paterno to do all he knew to do, do it in accordance to the policies and procedures as required by law and not do something ‘wrong’.
I don’t know if Paterno did anything wrong or illegal. As the investigation goes forward I am sure more details will come out. Until then, I reserve judgment on Joe Paterno. And I would be willing to bet that this incident, if true, will haunt him for the rest of his life. He will constantly wonder what he could have done, should have done and why he didn’t do it. And that will be his own personal torture.
And if there was a cover up to crimes actually committed, I hope all involved receive the maximum penalty and Penn State receive the maximum penalty for failing to do the right things.
And until those facts are established and made public, I can only rest my faith in the PA legal system to handle this and reserve final judgment until the process has be completed.

Re: Wtf penn st?
Joe apparently banned the guy from the locker room after 2002 when the grad assistant reported the rape and Joe reported it upstairs. Apparently in 1998, a prosecutor started preparing charges against Sandusky and dropped them. Later that prosecutor disappeared and was declared dead 7 years later, his body never found, but his laptop was found in the Susquehanna River. Connection? Probably not. My one thought in this is why didn't that grad assistant in 2002 just dial 911. If I saw a 10 year old being sodomized, I would like to think I'd dial 911. At least then the coach would have been caught in or near the act and perhaps evidence could have been gathered and this perv, taken off the streets.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

point made on the radio this a.m. was when the GA saw it happening why didn't he intervene? he's in his 20's/30's and Sandusky was in his 50s/60s. why not at the least yell at the guy. if he continues his behavior, beat the tar out of him.
i'm sorry, i know we don't know exactly what happened, but there's WAY too much smoke for there not to be a raging fire.

Re: Wtf penn st?
Sandusky retired from the football staff because he was "no longer going to be the head coach when Paterno retired".???? Get real, he was "retired" in hopes this whole thing would blow over. This thing goes back at least to 1998 when the first incident was reported, per newspaper reports. When Joe goes down, take away his wins back to when he participated in any cover up, just like USC, Ohio State, etc., asterisks should not be included in NCAA winning record achievements.
I'm sure a lot of these guys attended confessionals at the local Catholic church, this would be a good place to start in building this case.
To the guy who insists Penn is Penn State, Penn is the University of Pennsylvanis not Pennsylvania State University.

from all I've read, joe pa told the ad, which is what he was supposed to do. I think he will get crucified for not following up or taking it further. This is really crazy!
the more i hear and read about this, i need to recant what i said earlier.
joe pa didn't do enough here.
on the ticket this morning they were talking about the timing of the announcement of this. results of the investigation broke one week after Joe pa gets his record win to move into first place in W's all-time.
i think this marks the end of his tenure in happy valley.

I'll be one who says you are dead wrong.
If the GA did indeed go to Paterno with his observation, then why didn't Paterno strongly advise him to call the police, if Paterno himself was too afraid to do so himself? saying that he didn't directly observe the act doesn't cut it. to have handled the matter in the same manner as you would a minor ncaa rules violation speaks volumes as to the blind-eye he chose to exercise in favor of his own agenda.
you only have to ask yourself, "what would I want those in power to do, if this was my child?"

If Joe Pa retires, which he definitely should, I sure hope Bobby Bowden jumps up and takes that Ole Miss job so he can get the win record.
Re: Wtf penn st?
the local media had heard rumors for years about this.I have to ask wasnt this guy supposed to replace joe pa one day but he just suddenly quit coaching at the age of 55 for no real reason sounds fishy. This is going to get so much worse in the coming weeks there actullay might have been a cover up not just failing to report it to the cops
