Re: Men's Soccer - SMU vs. Memphis
SMU won 2-1 behind goals from Juan Castillo and Arthur Ivo.
It was a strange game. The Mustangs were down 1-0 in the second minute. Then SMU scored twice a minute apart late in the first half. Castillo scored at 37:00 and Ivo scored on a nice little play at 38:00.
SMU led in total shots 16-13 but Memphis had a ridiculous 11-1 advantage in corners.
All in all a nice Senior Day and a nice win for SMU.
Looking forward to the conference tournament!

From SMUMustangs.com:
Mustangs Close Out Regular Season With 2-1 Win Over Memphis On Senior Night
SMU begins Conference USA Tournament on Nov. 9 in Tulsa, Okla.
Nov. 4, 2011
DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's soccer team closed out the regular season by defeating Memphis, 2-1, on Senior Night at Westcott Field on Friday night. Sophomore Juan Castillo and senior Arthur Ivo scored a minute apart to earn the Mustang victory. With the win, SMU ends the regular season with a 10-6-1 record and a 4-3-1 mark in Conference USA. Memphis finishes 11-5-1 and 4-4-0 in league play.
Memphis opened the scoring early with a goal 1:43 into the game. Mark Sherrod headed the ball to Lewis Ellis who spun around and flipped the ball up and over SMU goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra for a 1-0 lead.
Castillo scored the equalizer at the 37 minute mark. Pressuring forward, Castillo stripped a defender of the ball, deked around the Memphis goalie and shot the ball into the open net to knot the score at one. The goal was Castillo's fifth of the season.
Ivo tallied the eventual game-winner exactly one minute later. Junior Ben Hill sent a through ball to Ivo up the right side who went around the Tiger keeper and fired a shot in from a very sharp angle. The goal was Ivo's team-leading sixth of the year and his third game-clincher.
Ibarra had several key saves for SMU including a spectacular jumping save to put the ball up over the crossbar in the 84th minute, and he stopped a bullet with 16 seconds remaining in the game to preserve the Mustang win.
SMU plays in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championships on Nov. 9 at either 5 or 7:30 p.m. in Tulsa, Okla. The Mustangs' seed and opponent will be known following tomorrow night's matchup between Marshall and UCF.

Re: Men's Soccer - SMU 2, Memphis 1
Updated standings after last night's action:
1. 19 (6-1-1) South Carolina
2. 19 (6-1-1) UAB
3. 13 (4-2-1) Marshall
4. 13 (4-3-1) SMU
5. 12 (4-4-0) Memphis
6. 10 (3-3-1) UCF
Marshall is at UCF at 6pm tonight.
If Marshall wins we will be the 4 seed and play Memphis.
If Marshall and UCF draw we will be the 4 seed and play Memphis.
If UCF wins, there is a three-way tie for third with 13 points. UCF would have wins over both SMU and Marshall, so they would have the 3 seed.
SMU and Marshall would have the 4 and 5 seed and meet in the first round no matter what they use as the second tiebreaker (we drew at Marshall).

Re: Men's Soccer - SMU 2, Memphis 1
C-USA gave SMU the 5th seed (second tiebreaker is goal differential in conference matches).
Game time vs. Marshall in the first round is Wednesday at 5pm.
If we win Wednesday, we play South Carolina Friday at 5pm Friday.

Re: Men's Soccer - SMU 2, Memphis 1
TopDrawerSoccer has us back in the NCAA field in their rankings this week. We definitely need to win a game or two in the C-USA tournament to make sure though...
The interesting thing is they now have five C-USA teams in the field (last week they only had four).
C-USA teams:
17 - UAB
30 - UCF
33 - SMU
34 - South Carolina
36 - Memphis
