Nothing. I make the point because its about continuity. Do you tell people you went to SMU or Southern Methodist? I'm sure 90% of us say SMU.
I dont know I mean its both for me, I wear shirts that say SMU on one line and the next is Southern Methodist University. I mean I like saying the full name, much like my fraternity KA, where I like saying Kappa Alpha Order. Either way its not a big deal, I identify both with SMU and its full name. I think you can still brand yourself either way, but yeah theres no doubt that people outside of Texas dont have a clue what it stands for.
I get all this, I do. I just think that we all would like some brand recognition, and the best way is SMU, not Southern Methodist. It'd be great if all outlets used one or the other, and i would vote for SMU.

They think, Southern : MN, MD, MS MI, MN, MO, MT., or derivatives thereof. Usually I have to say Southern Methodist in Dallas, or SMU in Dallas. Dallas is always the key.
Very true, if it were a Baptist school, it wouldnt run into as many conflicts as the M would lol

Dont worry, unfortunately for me, I have noticed that most of the items are SMU or the picture of the mustang. The only stuff that really has the full name is diploma holders and some notebooks. I mean Im fine if they just go how the big schools work, most of the stuff is UT and Longhorn picture, and some items still say its full name for people like me lol
Along these lines...after the aggy game in college station my sister went into McDonalds for a drink. Two aggie students (female) were in there and asked, "Where is SMU anyways?" So people don't know, even aggy

Most people outside of texas have never heard of college station, either.

90% of the time the next line in this conversation is: "oh, you went to a bible college....."
