Q: What is 10,206? A: Announced attendance

Postby Sam I Am » Sun Nov 14, 2004 3:38 pm

Could there actually have been 10,206 torn ticket stubs collected at the game on Saturday? Maybe someone has found a way to beat the system by collecting tickets whether people attend or not. This sounds like a military body count in a war zone. I only wish the numbers were true.

I had 12 reserved seat tickets last night that I couldn't get rid of...so I took 'em to the gate with me...and the attendant tore the stubs off of ALL OF THEM for me. So, even though I was only 1...I accounted for 12! Maybe others did the same....?

You lied. That is a big surprise. You obviously are not Mustang material.

Did you also lie about being Laura Bush Lover?

I would have guessed about 8,000 in the stands. I have no idea about the press box area. 10,000 doesn't sound to off to me.

Tickets bought is a better measure

Postby Sam I Am » Sun Nov 14, 2004 5:40 pm

I think the number of tickets bought is a better measure for attendance than fans in the stands. The revenue is what matters to a school. Otherwise you could give tickets away or sell them for $1 just to get a crowd in the gate to get ticket stubbs. If you have 12 tickets, then they should all be counted when you go in the gate. Come to think of it, I don't even like the Div. 1-A rule about crowd size. If Ross Perot wanted to fund a college team for his private entertainment, let him do it if he can afford it. End of rant.

I agree. In any other business, the only thing that matters is how many people paid. If I go to a restaurant and don't eat all of my onion rings because they're not so good, the restaurant owner still counts me as "paid attendance" at the end of the day, because he still got my money. Meanwhile he tries like hell to make better onion rings. By the same token, if somebody buys a ticket at the beginning of the year, and then stays home because he doesn't like our product on the field, we should still be able to count that person, unless we refund his money. He paid. It's a business like any other business. I've never understood why the NCAA made the rule like that.

Then on the other hand, I took 4 people to the game, but came in a side entrance so none of my tickets got torn. Didn't even think about it till later.

oops!

...according to the SMU Ticket Manager, ticket takers ARE NOT suppossed to tear phantom tickets, could lose their job for doing so....personally, I think the "fake ticket" scam to boost #'s is "so SMU", I love it.....maybe we could get Dudley Parker back to head it up, Dale could do a story on it...you know, camera pans the crowd, 18 people sitting there in the rain, watching SMU and SJSU, stub count says 18,500, Craig Welch and crew being hand cuffed for "ticket abuse".....??? Long Live Rod Hampton.

I would've guessed about 3,500 in the stands. No way in hell there were 10,000 at that game.

At least Tech is sold out. On those days, it almost feels like real college football.

I remember when we played North Carolina St. They almost had as many fans at the game.

agreed JT. There was no where near 10,000. 3500 tops.

That frat kid w/ the helmet was still the highlight of the game......that guy represents the true spirit and enthusiasm of the SMU fan.

He should have lined up on offense.....that is where Nevada needed the help...........while we won, I thought our offense was not impressive.
