Re: Joe Pa is gone
Hey, here's a novel idea, how about the criminal justice system handle the claims. If a bylaw was violated, then the NCAA can take their whacks. The idea of having the NCAA start doling out punishments based on criminal infractions is one, inappropriate, and two, opens up a whole can of worms outside of this incident.

get real. we are now going to debate if raping children is an official NCAA violation??
who gives a S--t. They should receive the death penalty for the horrendous felonies that were committed by part of the coaching staff and the subsequent cover up.
If Mack Brown killed someone and the rest of the coaching staff covered it up for him for a long period of time - don't you think their program should be punished? Well this is about 1,000,000 times worse than that scenario.

yes, we are going to debate that in order to determine if the NCAA has any jurisdiction here. No one is arguing that it is horrible or wrong, but on a SPORTS forum we are arguing if the body over college sports really can hand down any punishment.

you are clearly from Pennsylvania and a Penn St. fan because only those delusional [deleted] up there actual defend Joe Pa/Penn St/anything to do with this case. The people supporting JoePa and the football program don't realize how much more embarrassing they are making things for their school. I am embarrassed for everyone there who continues to cheer for that hellhole.
Hate to inform you 2007, but I am a two sport SMU letterman who is a member of the Lettermen's Assoc., Mustang Club and contribute individually to various team events. Can you say the same??? I constantly bust the chops of all Penn State fans despite not having had much to brag about with regard to SMU sports until recent years. My issue not with any of the actors, moral issues or criminal proceedings, but only pertains to whether or not this is or should be an NCAA matter. My position is that the NCAA was not established to become involved in such matters despite some nebulous rules that permit such far reaching involvement. The NCAA was intended to regulate sports and not criminal activities that do not directly involve a sports team.

I agree that Pocono's challenge was whether NCAA was entitled to become a major actor in what is clearly criminal and morally repugnant activity. As for condemning everyone associated with PSU, I posted the following separately:
"Here is an extremely well written article which records the pain felt for the victims, as well as the alumni and fans of PSU. This is a cautionary and constructive tale for Penn State fans, but more importantly, those outside the program, including the media. Although our sins of the past pale in comparison, you can translate somewhat the feelings into those felt by SMU fans and alums in the late 1980's.
It is easy to be critical, but 99% of the Penn State family is embarassed and confused. The feelings and emotions are thoughtfully expressed:"
