sbsmith, I'm not defending McD at all ... he's terrible generally speaking (he's a NM St back up after all, what do you expect?) but that Dline from USM were beasts and their secondary was VERY fast and more athletic than us ... that dline was consistently beating our "experienced" but mediocre oline especially in pass blocking ... he was getting pounded (by that kid Law, who will definitely start on Sundays, among others).
Again, just my humble opinion.
I support this team and see it as what it is ... a team clearly improving and fighing to be over 500 ... in 2 years we will be a very good team ESPECIALLY if we stay in CUSA ... and will then be ready to make a jump ... unfortunately, we will probably make that jump before then but we might still be ok ...

Before we hired our coach would you have expected the team to win more than it has in year 4? I am as upset as anyone over the teams play the last several games, but realistically I did expect 7 wins at the beginning of the season. If we take care of business against Rice, we will be right there. Today's loss is probably the most frustrating of them all given that Navy has not had a good season and we still had our chances. Texas A&M, Southern Miss, Tulsa, TCU, and Houston are all better teams than SMU at this juncture so there really is no shame in losing those right now. Once our recruiting classes of 2010, 2011, and this year start to mature and we are able to add on in the next few years, then we will be evenly matched talent-wise. Our biggest hole right now is QB play and Preston should be an upgrade and then we will have major upgrades in subsequent seasons. Again, in the words of Coach Reinebold "We're not where we want to be but we are much better than where we were." Ponyup and don't watch next week as it will be very ugly.

No, Cali has the most talent BY FAR ... have you been to any of these HS games? Westlake Christian, CalPoly, Sierra, etc? ... like watching college teams. Florida is next. Texas is a distant third. (doesn't Cali usually beat TX when they play that CA vs TX high school game?).
Oh c'mon my HS team back in the dynasty was unmatched (SC Dragons). I mean i remember beating a team 100+ points one game. Won state championships, and for the record that crap game with Florida team was a fluke, because my year was the last of the dynasty. The class after mine (the one that played #1 Florida team) sucked.

I get what you mean and there's no question they had better overall talent than us but we're not the only team they've had that advantage on and yet we scored the fewest of any USM opponent this season.

Shadowman, you only contribute after a loss, weak sauce bud. I am as [deleted] off as everyone right now. Terrible effort out there tonight.
June isn't going anywhere for now, so might as well deal with it.
What...you want me to grab the Pom Pom's and cheer on the boards after we beat Tulane?
I think we are going in the wrong direction, but it has been harder to post due to the June Jones Love Fest.
Look, you spend 2 million a year, you deserve better than a burnout that is in love with Hawaii, thumbs his nose at tradition, and runs an offense that a 2AA team in West Texas could stop.
I love SMU, and I have a financial and emotional investment in this program...I can rail all I want when they lose at home to a 3-6 Navy team.
/cheers

What? We beat TCU? Thats when our team was focused and prepared. But I agree with the rest, we just need to be patient for the incoming talent. I just wish we could of used them in Southern Miss through the end of the season. Because honestly Im sick of keeping JJMcD.

shadowman, I hear you. You DEFINITELY have a right to be pissed after this [deleted] performance, as am I (I'm vested, too).
HOWEVER, please remember this is a process with us. I don't think we've gone backwards. I would argue we are playing a very difficult schedule (I know NW St was an easy one, but we had to play USM and UH - tops in their conference - and a very underrated Tulsa team ... I'd argue we had an easier schedule last year ... aTM is a better team this year than Tech was last year) ... players like Jeremy Johnson, Stephon Sanders, and Thompson getting some experience will pay off next year and the next year when they will have a quality QB ...

I wish we had UH schedule, because I think we could handle UCLA at home, and then float by everyone else. Then hopefully take on Tulsa then and had to match up against Houston. This schedule was by far the hardest compare to the other CUSA teams. I mean AM, TCU, So Miss, UCF, Houston, Tulsa. I mean thats no floater. Hopefully for our last season in Crap USA, we can get a sleeper so we can go 10-2

BanjoBongo wrote:Oh so now you all are saying JJ style is out of date. JJ is great at turning around a program but he style doesn't win conferences, just realize if we want to move forward then we need someone to improve upon our status. This is coming from a guy that actually played college football, i wasn't great but I know the kind of coach we need to move us into a ranked program. Say what you want now but I'm not that crazy for asking for a new style of coaching.
We need a balance QB who can scramble once in awhile, otherwise its either zach run or JJ interception.

Nice post...maybe we have not gone backwards, but certainly not forwards...June had a 1-11 season and then pulled out a few .500s, kinda like Phil Bennett. He really has not done much, certainly not 2 million dollars a year worth.
Yes, he beat an unranked TCU team, but Phil Bennett beat a ranked TCU team that had just beat Oklahoma in Norman....but just like Phil, the rest of the season was a let down.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

BanjoBongo wrote:Excuses stink and nobody wants to hear it. If you actually played sports in your life you understand that. So our QB doesn't scamble enough? Our O line is great and JJD should be able to move the ball with a 5 step drop back all day. June didn't know what do against the Mid Shipman, when are you all going to agree when me about our coach. Great at turning a program around but a one trick pony (no pun intended) with a program
He never scrambles! Yes our O line is usually pretty good, but you cant deny the fact we are running an offense with a turncoat QB. He literally hands the ball to the other team. I mean no coach controls that other than kicking him out, which he doesnt want to play our young QB...

Oh yeah good point, I mean I try to make it a definite statement, but yes Tulsa way way way harder schedule. I thought they did pretty well for a CUSA team.

Re: June Jones Supporters...Let's Hear it!!!!!!
shadowman, thanks. I don't think Bennett and Jones are in the same league, head coaching-skill/recruiting wise. But I hear you.
BanjoBongo, if Jones is great at turning a program around and that's what we hired him to do, isn't he succeeding? I would argue, yes, absolutely. So I'm not understanding your issue. He is in the MIDDLE of turning our program around. Once we're there (2-3 more years) we will then hire that coach that will take it up a notch with QUALITY talent and a good reputation.

We beat a team TCU that just beat a top 5 Boise State team
That's even after a very laughable pass interference call on 4th down when Boise St. was coming back. Boise St. deservably missed a field goal to lose the game. Seems conference alignment brings out the best in officials.
