Re: June Jones Supporters...Let's Hear it!!!!!!
I think a big part of the problem is that prior to JJ we had no expectations- just small amount of hope. Now we have risen to a new level and we now have expectations and are very critical when the team fails to meet them. I am probably as critical as anybody on this board but I also realize that I have no patience and want the team to progress much faster than is likely realistic. IMO most of the negative comments are ones of frustration and deep down we realize that JJ is indeed doing a good job- perhaps not perfect but better than the years previous.

hilltop- agree with you about the lack of leadership. Normally the QB is expected to be the 'sparkplug' of the offense and hence the leader. McD does not seem to fill that bill- KP was much more demonstrative and the team seemed to respond better to him. JMHO.

It's hard to play KP when he's not at games.

How long does June get a pass because we used to really suck and he took us from nothing to mediocre? SMU is approaching great in almost every department and in almost every way except for athletics - so 6-6 is not the SMU way. I dont think we should be satisfied with 6 or 7 wins just because we were horrible forever. When do we start expecting more?

Agreed gostangs..we are all just overachievers here at SMU and we all have to notice the lack of emotions and a somewhat lack of leadership at this time by the team.....to heck with bringing up the previous 20 or 30 years, as they are long gone.....the time is now and what is important is the immediate future. If we don't question the leadership now,....... will we just go on and accept mediocrity in the future just because its better than the past?...BS

It would be one thing to have 6 or 7 wins in a major AQ conference, but we're not in one. I agree that in C-USA, 6/7 is not now, nor has it ever been acceptable. I think after this season, if things continue to go sideways to down, a meeting is needed where some hard questions are asked.

He gets a pass until he leaves. I'm guessing that's what draws him to reclamation projects, anything he does looks better than what the last guy did and he gets deified for it.

Penn State would be a great reclamation project.

I wasn't sold on JJ from the start. What ever the tram problems they are the responibility of the head coach. This Is JJ's fourth season and he has recruted 47three star or above recruits. We arn't getting our money's worth. On well $2million dosen't buy as much as it used to. What has Gary Patterson's salary been over the last 4 years?

They need moral reclamation not football reclamation.

You can say that if it's your money. If it isn't.....

Adrian Klemm has been worth it. Without JJ we wouldn't have that guy.

Blame JJ all you want. Yell and scream about the R&S. Go ahead. Nothing is going to change.
This lose was on McD. Poor throws, poor decisions. He put himself in position to get sacked several times with a 3 man rush. He did it with the way he moved in the pocket. His interceptions were awful. He was very inaccurate all day.
The D was not disciplined but that's what you expect when you play the option once a freaking year. The defense is not built around stopping the option and they do not practice every week like they practice against the spread attacks of CUSA. One week of practice will not do that. Holding Navy to 24 was actually not bad. If the offense didn't go three an out a couple of times or have terrible TOs Navy wouldn't have made it to 24.
Better QB play and we win, it's pretty simple. But hey go ahead and blame JJ for it, he's the coach and he can take it. For everyone out there ready to fire him, who's going to replace him?

I have not been able to watch every game, but of those I have watched it is clear that we don't have the QB needed to make this offense and team successful. The fact is McD is too inaccurate to play in our system. The QB position is the most important position in almost any system, but in our system the QB is even more critical. Unless we get better play out of the QB, we will continue to be inconsistent and not beat good teams on a regular basis. However, I will not let JJ off the hook. He is responsible for making sure we have that type of QB and he has failed in that department. After the Bowl game against Nevada, I thought we had found him in Padron but he has clearly regressed. This could have been a great season but there's just a lack of leadership on the field as well, and QBs typically tend to take on that role. McD has not done that. Hopefully we have some pride and bounce back to end the season on a positive note.
