I thought I read that SMU can't comment on the situation since he is still a recruitable player.

He would be a recruitable player if he had gone to a junior college, but he didn't. He's still under SMU control, for a lack of a better term. But a school can't comment on a player who is not enrolled. Until that happens, we won't hear a peep out of SMU about him.
