Re: June Jones Supporters...Let's Hear it!!!!!!
Doesn't matter who the qb is, for whatever reason, this team stopped playing at S. Miss.
Re: June Jones Supporters...Let's Hear it!!!!!!
USA is so weak from the middle of pack down that with one nonconference win a mediocre team can be bowl eligible..kinda like TCU has done for years. Our future nc schedule should be good. The question is do you keep striving to get better and upgrade with better assistant coaches, facilities and players or are you happy to go 6-6, 7-5, 0r 8-4 and go to a bowl? TCU used that framework to build rather than to be satisfied and look where they are now. The run and shoot is outdated in this day and time because so many teams are running spreads and the defenses have recruited players to play against these passing offenses. Look no further than our dismal performance against Navy and army...our offenses have trouble moving the ball and our quicker defenses can't stop the run! Give June credit for geting us this far!

I am a June Jones supporter. He's gotten this team far further in his short time here than I could have imagined. I believe we're experiencing a temporary and normal plateau. We will compete but lose to Houston before beating Rice the following week. Hawaii Bowl appearance on Christmas Eve. Next year we'll blow doors.

SMU is approaching great in almost every department and in almost every way except for athletics - so 6-6 is not the SMU way. I dont think we should be satisfied with 6 or 7 wins just because we were horrible forever. When do we start expecting more?
June's stated goal this year was to win the conference championship. That is your signal to start expecting more and giving June less slack. I'm not advocating that we fire June at this time, but he clearly is not living up to the expectations he created at the start of the year.

Yes, the moment SMU is no longer in contention for the C-USA West, is a definite green-light to start taking notes on his decisions. We're 49 games into the June Jones era and we are still waiting for 60 minutes of full-on Run-and-Shoot. We're all subjected to scrutiny by the professional goals we set up for ourselves.

JJ has taken us from a 0-12 team to three straight years of bowl eligiblity. From what I've heard from players and parents who were there for the Bennett era, its a huge improvement. Add in that we are now seeing 3 star recruits far more often than during the Bennett era. We have been moving up the ladder. There is no problem with Jones coaching or the run-n-shoot, the one area where we haven't had the break-through recruit is at QB. Padron looked like he was it, but after awhile his lack of experience in high school showed. McDermott is servicable, but doesn't have the arm strength to go deep, thus allowing teams to crowd short zones (especially against the wind). I think the Coach has probably decided not to burn Padron's medical redshirt this year and allow him a year to better absorb the offense. Note, no other younger QB's have gotten game time even in mop up times. So, clearly the Coach's plan for next year is KP or a transfer.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

How can you say it isn't the coaches and then state we don't have a QB....isn't that entirely on the coaching staff....
let alone a guy who knows his offense is only capable with QB play...

There are plenty of problems with June's coaching, namely his failure to develop a legit QB to run his QB dependent offense. Playcalling can seem utterly ridiculous at times because he calls shots as if he has an All-American back there. And then there are the constant time management issues and TO usage.

East, just one of several recent examples, but I wonder how the young men at Temple viewed the change in their head coach and staff? To Al Golden.
From Wikipedia: "Golden was named head football coach at Temple University in December 2005,[1] as the second-youngest head coach in NCAA football at that time, behind Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald. Temple had a record of 3–31 during the three years before Golden was hired. In Golden's first three years at the helm, Temple recorded 1–11 in 2006, 4–8 in 2007 and then 5–7 mark in 2008. The 2008 record was the best for the program since a 7–4 mark in 1990.
The Owls finished the 2009 regular season at 9–3, their best record since 1979, the last time they appeared in a postseason game (his fourth year FYI).
At Temple for gosh sakes. Four years of improved records.
Point. No shortage of good, enthusiastic young coaches who would look at SMU with stars in their eyes. And work their butts off 24 x 7 for the privildege.
And in all fairness with kudos to JJ for what he has done, this would not have been the case 3 years ago.

You know what? That's fair. I guess I just don't think he's nearly done, and we need to let him do his job to get us there. This is a temporary plateau, nothing more.
