Oct. 21, 1989 Houston 95, SMU 21 -- NEVER FORGET

Post by Mitch McConnell »

Alright I'm done chewing. I hate Cougar High and being in the Astrodome for that disgrace of sportsmanship still burns in my memory.

I won't even forgive Houston for what they did. Every single year, their fans will be reminded of this event. For them to even defend it is laughable.

This is my annual posting of that game to remind us all where that we're SMU and they're total scumbags.

Mitch, I am with you. I was there too and it hurt a lot. My family still ridicules me about it. Even though I later sent my youngest son to UH, I have never supported their athletics and I never will.

I have despised cougar high since that day as well. I truly hope Jack Pardee and John Jenkins burn eternally in hell. D'bags for a true d'bag school.

Did they just keep throwing deep balls? even in the 2nd half?

You bet. Andre Ware played the first half and then they brought David Klingler in the second half and was ligthing it up. Their fans were really yucking it up when they went over 1,000 yards of total offense.

And keep in mind 1989 was the year we returned from the death penalty. I think all of us realized we were going to get creamed a lot and losing something like 63-14 (I think that was the A&M score) was going to happen. We could live with that. What UH did was totally inexcusable.

Yes.

Deep. Repeatedly. Their stated goal before the game was to put up 100 points. It was no secret.

I hate them, I hate them, I hate them. 100 times I hate them.

:D My intention was to come in peace until I saw this thread. I was there, I was one of those saying "more, more more." Come on SMU, you paid your freakin' players! Your board member and Texas governor approved it! You deserved it! Now get over it and let's go forward in a relatively friendly manner. I hope a lot of your fans com down for the game Saturday and have a safe trip. Good luck and Go Coogs!

Coug High is really good at being classy.

They did a 100-7 against Tulsa in 66 or 67 when our entire team had the flu.

They do it every week.

Destroying their BCS dreams is going to be glorious.
Trey was using the powers of Gamehendge to allow the show to continue, to give the band the strength it needed to help break through this barrier

Hmm. We were the only ones paying them? Seems we were not the only heavily sanctioned team on the field that day....

Riddle me this professor. How many of the SMU players on the field were being paid that day? And how had it previously impacted any of the UH players on the field? So, in addition to having our program shut down for two years, we "deserved" to be embarrassed like that? Gimme a [deleted] break.

It was a classless move, and if you were one of the UH fans yelling for them to hang a 100 on SMU, then you demonstrated classless behavior that day.
