First- I am a JJ fan. I appreciate what he has done for SMU. I sincerely doubt that any other coach could have done the same.
Second- I am disappointed that he has no love for our university. I understand the 'lei' issue but I have never felt he viewed this as anything than another job to pad his bank account.
Third- yes, IMO there are coaches who could take over from here and build a more successful team. For example, Urban Meyer. OK - he might not return any phone calls but people have asked who could come here and do better. There are others I am sure but they just don't come to mind at the moment.

In short, we need to progress- the rest of this season and next. If at the end of next season we have not seen significant improvement in player attitude and enthusiasm then perhaps the C of C needs to have some discussions with JJ to determine the future direction.

I think so too, but you are also going to have people especially the older guys who dont want to ruin this promising path. I say if we get hit with a losing season, except for the first season in the big east. I can handle having winning seasons, however if we have another blow up like this again then yes that should be another cause for review. I mean we cant threaten him with kicking him out, but we need to let him know he needs to think of this as his home. He needs to think its more than just a paycheck. Its upsetting that he has made some comments like that.

Entiendo- money rules. However, at least some coaches put on the pretense of liking the university.

You get in trouble when you give people free passes because of past laurels...successful organization don't.

so what your saying is if a coach has a down year or takes a step back once in awhile he should be gone wow over half the teams would have a new head coach every year.To answer your question your D>A>M>N RIGHT i think he should get a pass for what he did for us where is YOUR loyalty ppl JJ came into our house set back on the right track after 20 years of garbage and you want him gone when we dont even have a losing record step back and think you brats. We have more wins this year than the last 10 years put together before JJ got here show some loyalty and hunker down and ride this bust of a year out like men.Be gratefull JJ came and help our foundation and fixed our house

JJ has made a new, quality coach very realistic. Kudoes and thanks. No doubt he deserves all the accolades coming his way. But he is set in his ways, does not have the personnel to run the R&S, and he has no intention of giving his baby up for a week or a year until new guys come in that can run his O. In the interim, we sit and wait. And $2M/annum is lot to pay to bide time.

The money w/ BE is going to be there. The overwhelming majority of head coaches were at some point in time a coordinator. I like to think of the Al Golden's of the world. Temple...are you kidding me. There are similar stories, not every day, but with enough frequency that if you do your homework you can find one of these future stars. And as most are typically young, they also posses some fire in their guts and my guess is a number would be thrilled with $2M a year.

1) I never ever said I want him fired and I don't want that either
2) I never asked you a question
3) The only thing June is being judged on are his own stated goals
4) Everybody is thankful for being in a better situation than 1989-2007.

You need to take it down a knotch.

One of the reasons I started RBA because I was worried June would get tired of looking up and seeing empty seats and people sitting on their hands and decide this wasn't worth his time. SMU would be batsh!t to fire him after this year but I hope June isn't invincible. We are forever indebted to him, sure, but the rebuilder better keep on rebuilding. I have no doubt that SMU will give June a fair shake, relax. As long as they keep trying, I'll be behind them.

Hotshot coordinators with 1.5 hands tied behind their backs are going to have difficulties. I wonder what Phil Bennett would say about having a shot over again with what JJ has gotten to work with?
Mike Cavan? Both might even be able to pay quality assistants wages above 2A high school levels.

People need to give some credit elsewhere. If we had beaten Tulsa we would still be in touch of our stated goals. Tulsa is a good team and we did not have a good day. Tulsa-Houston is going to be an AWESOME game to watch, even if we beat UH this week. We are MUCH better than we used to be, but the CUSA West has a good Tulsa team and a UH team that rode its luck early in the season and is now playing lights out. We are in with a chance of winning almost every game we are in. ATM and Tulsa are the only two games where we did not have a chance because of the early hole we put ourselves in.

SMU football is competitive. Cheer up.
