The games were like picnics compared to the practices. If your team does not practice hard and intensely and focused. If the practices are not tough and difficult and demanding, your team will not perform on gameday. Look at the progress TCU has made since losing to SMU and compare to our team.

No doubt you play like you practice. Evident. We have powder puff practices with almost no full speed once season begins. In 2-a-days, maybe 3 sessions where you can take someone to the ground. Maybe. But then again, when you spend all your time teaching, there is no time left for contact. Mel wears them out at the end, but they aren't running on fumes when they get to that point.

Are you watching coaches tape or just whatever you DVR? Sorry but 20 years of watching games or playing back in the day doesn't make you some kind of x and o guru. A couple of the op's points seem silly...JJ has been hurt and he didn't have a huge arm to begin w/. He's barely practiced the past few weeks. So yeah...he's playing like he practices which has been injured.

It is not about Xs and Os or the QB's play. A QB in the R&S is not going to hit or be hit in practice. I think we all know that the QB at SMU is limited as to ability and perhaps because of injuries and there seems to be no one to back him up. But the lack of consistent effort by the linemen, Dbs, Lbs, receivers except for Beasley and the overall attitude of the team on the field and on the sideline seems to indicate that the team does not really play hard or aggressively on a consistent basis. They also beat themselves with turnovers and penalties which indicates a lack of focus.

Another interesting point to me is that June Jones does not wear earphones during the game which means he is not able to communicate with the press box. Every other offensive coordinator I know of in football talks to the press box in order to help decide the next play to call. You can't see much from the sideline as to what the defense is doing. Seems strange to me. Does he use mental telepathy?

Good analysis, but I'd like to defend the DL a little bit. Their job is to tie up the OL and allow the LBs to make the plays. That's happening.

I do understand that the 3-4 which is used by SMU is designed to let the linebackers make the tackles and thanks for the reminder. Obviously that type of play does not work well against the triple option. I have always believed that penetration of the offensive line by DLs and forcing the option QB to prematurely make his decision is the way to go. Of course the rules about blocking have changed and many OL never get into a three point stance. The game has changed and to me it is fun to watch a triple option team's OLine.

Get some, in no way was I remotely involving the qb in that analogy. I assumed (stupid me) that everyone knew the qbs are not live during season. You also may throw a red shirt or helmet cover over an injured player, but it's live for everyone else.
