Taylor Reed sums it up
from DMN "As SMU’s losses mount, linebacker Taylor Reed admitted to feeling unrest in the locker room. Some guys, he said, don’t think SMU is taking the season seriously enough, and some think the Mustangs aren’t practicing hard enough. Reed hasn’t seen the passion he expects during games"

Sounds like a serious leadership problem. Where is our coaching staff?
I'm the guy blocking your view on 3rd down and making your ears hurt.

No inside info.... but $5 says June & co. have silently taken a new coaching gig elsewhere and are not revealing until after the season, ala Hawaii and the sugar bowl.

Thanks for posting, smubrooks.
Gosh, now one of our best players is questioning the effort. Don't do that Taylor. Why? Because it simply can't be. You, young man, must be wrong.

I do have inside info and I can assure you that all the main cogs have not accepted jobs elsewhere.

There is no emotion on the sideline. A bunch of dang corpes. Atleast Gary Patterson will call timeout and [deleted] chew his team.
Re: Taylor Reed sums it up
SMU can hire me to walk up and down the sideline and chew people out!!!

Re: Taylor Reed sums it up
Reed's stock just went up in my book. Sidelined in Tulsa for aggressive penalties and ignoring the coaches wishes when they wanted him to go off the field...a clearer picture about this team is forming. Reed's face going into halftime against Navy read "defeated" and I took that as a sign of quit in a leader and pervasive throughout the team. Maybe I misread that. Maybe that look was something along the lines of "I can't believe we are losing to Navy like this and I'm the only one who seems to care."

Interesting someone is acknowledging what we've suspected...there's some type of internal matters going on in the locker room.
Feisty vs passive.

Re: Taylor Reed sums it up
I think there is a core group of passionate players that includes Davis, Reed and Padron among, others. I don't think the coaching staff really cares as long as they follow direction, assignments and keep a calm demeanor on the sidelines but I bet with the benching of Padron and the suspension of Reed, that passionate group feels punished and helpless against the general nonchalance of the team. I was re-watching the Hawaii Bowl highlights and one thing I noticed was that Shawnbrey, Aldrick and Sanders inspired a lot of sideline fun and horsing-around. We don't have 1/10 of that energy that we had back then and I bet that is very discouraging to emotion-fueled players. Senior leaders like Banjo, Beachum and Thompson seem to put their heads down and work without much fuss. That combined with the cool coaching staff demeanor I think has really zapped the intensity from our sideline.

Rightly or wrongly coaches expect that to come from the players. "It's their team"
They are "treated like adults". That means if you aren't performing you should sit. Who needs to be sitting??

You know what would fire them up: a Gary Patterson Effigy or punching bag. Nothing is better than letting out a little hate.
