I blame the anonymity afforded by the internet for those negative comments. It's easy to be a big talker when no one knows who you are.

In fairness, there were a lot of positive comments wishing him well. I hope he will see the similar success from him transferring into SMU that some of our folks had when they transferred out.

generally people wishing him luck, but a few idiots:

Get lost Gilbert. Mack should have learned the lesson from Chris Simms, genetically gifted son's of NFL quarterbacks are mentally weak.

n
how immature are you? he tried his best and didn't succeed.

being an ex longhorn you don't come here to try this isn't middle school where your dad is the coach and your best friend this is about money and giving the people what they want. 2-8 and 2 interceptions unacceptable, 5-7 after going to the NC unacceptable, running away after your benched unacceptable. Your past will always find you even if you run to SMU its not the coach its you, the leader, the play maker and the heart of your team

Im glad hes leaving them, they have treated him like crap. Im hoping that he gets a shot to play in the BE and use his AQ experience play to benefit our team. Im hoping he can show everyone that he is a respectable QB. I dont think its a big deal how his season went, terrible situation as a freshman, not much experience to lead the team as a sophmore, gets injured and expected to play amazing with no help from coaches and teammates, and especially fans. As much as I dont like McDermott, I would never boo him off the field or just in general because there is no purpose.

don't forget coaching turnovers. he got run off b/c the fans wanted a head to roll for the terrible season they had. easy solution, bench the QB when you have a stable of them.

For whatever reason sometimes it just doesn't work out...could be the player, head coach, often the position coach, teammates support, expectations, competition level, sytem, college enviroment. That is why kids must really look past all the lies that are told in recruiting like giving the impression they are going to play or start as freshman. On the other hand coaches need to do their homework and make sure of the kids moral background, academics, family situation along with potential and work ethic. the kid is stuck for a year in most cases with the transfer rules while the coaches can leave or destroy playing eleigibility. the best thing I think would be to talk with many players, especially those who have graduated or left the program. for instance, do you think Gilbert gave Bo Levi or Braden Smith a call or is he given the impression he wil be a starter and groomed for the NFL? We wish him the best and much success and happiness at SMU! It is gonna be exciting.

It'll be a shock for him to go from playing before 70k plus fans to ~ 20k.
