The band is smaller than it used to be

We are working on this. Visit www.smubandpartnership.com and see why the band is much smaller, in a nut shell, scholarship money and facilities. Did you know that the Mustang Band still holds rehearsals in the basement of Perkins Natatorium in an area about 2800 square feet. That area also includes the band offices. I'll bet most of you have houses bigger that this.

So if you have a lot of money and/or you need to shelter from Uncle Sam, contact the SMU Band Partership and become a partner.

Thank you, Hixon to Levias for that stroll down memory lane. Long before the Pony Express rode into Texas Stadium, I enjoyed watching the M&M boys do their thing in the Cotton Bowl. Shall we debate who was better...Maxon or Morris? And I was also disappointed to see Hayden Fry treated like he was. The guy was our neighbor (along with Tom Landry in those days in North Dallas)

Long live Robert (Crash) Popelka. Now that guy could hit!!!

While HixsontoLeVias and I have had our disagreements at times, I agree with his post of the pre-DP glory days and my memories of SMU football for which I'm thankful this holiday season.

Other recollections: seeing SMU beat Navy, led by future Heisman trophy winner and Dallas Cowboy Roger Staubach; witnessing the Mustangs defeat of the Teasips at Homecoming 1965 (and getting kissed by SMU cheerleader Diane Cosper!!! ); enjoying the Bluebonnet Bowl game where SMU defeated the OU Sooners; watching Mike Ford and Emanuel Tolbert team up in the early stages of "Mustang Mania"; watching Highland Park product and SMU legacy Lance McIlhenny lead the "Pony Express"; attending the Cotton Bowl to see the 1982 team defeat Pittsburgh, led by QB Dan Marino; Reggie Dupard carrying the ball for the Mustangs following the departure of Dickerson & James; being at Ownby Stadium to see Romo pull off the "Miracle on Mockingbird" against Connecticut; listening on the radio to - but not seeing  - Bobby Leach's runback against TT; attending the opening of Ford Stadium and watching the Mustangs defeat Big XII rep Kansas.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL MUSTANGS! AND TRAVEL SAFELY THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND! WE NEED ALL OF OUR LOYAL FANS TO RETURN IN 2005!!!

I guess my recollections were Louie Kelcher single-handedly leading us to victory over the #1 ranked Aggies (and messing up their half-time show). Arthur Whittington running back a kickoff return with against Rice to win the game with less than a minute left and doing the same thing later in the year to tie Arkansas. Seeing us beat Pitt in the Cotton Bowl. Seeing us fall at the last minute at Penn State with Mike Ford throwing a zillion passes. Watching Dupard run for 200+ against Louisville.
