You're both right! Kyle locked onto receivers and waited for them to get open instead of taking what the defense gave him. He also started games too amped and threw a lot of over-throw INTs. Better athlete, better mobility, better arm and totally teachable problems which is why his lack of improvement last year and over the Summer is so puzzling. Jones' offense is COMPLETELY about taking what the defense gives you and making proper reads, PLUS I think June wanted to protect potential draft pick Kelvin Beachum from looking bad by giving up too many sacks. J.J. makes the right reads, faster but can't make all the throws accurately, has minimal mobility and, because of injury or not, is not placing fairly simple passes well. Kyle is unquestionably the better and more active leader, players visibly respond in his presence but may have already burned through his chances. If I were coach, I'd take Kyle who plays with passion any day, live with the mistakes and work like heck to rectify what appear to be fairly minor bad habits.

It's amazing to me that after 10 weeks we re still discussing the merit of Jones pulling KP in favor of McD. I don't blame anyone for questioning Jones' decision, it just seems so blatant that Jones elected not to allow KP to compete for the position. Jones has said numerous times he has to have 2 QBs ready to play. However, ironically, in his 4 years here, he has never "deliberately" used 2 QBs. He does things and then tries to justify it by referring to previous years of Hawaii football. They rarely pan out. Why did Kp get 2 plays vs UTEP (both running plays)? Then he gets mop up duty vs NWST, and is shut out completely against Memphis, TCU, and UCF. Then the kid gets hurt and Jones is looking for him to bail out his poor decision. Kp was used as an insurance policy. If McD screwed up, KP had experience and was available. Jones never figured Kp would get hurt. Now we have a "disabled" QB and 2 fish that have never played D1 football. Houston could get really ugly. Rice is a must win. If McD goes down in Houston, we are in big trouble against Rice, especially without Line. Can you imagine a team that was 5-1 early in the season, finishing with a bowl loss at 6-7? Those early wins against inferior competition really skewed how good McD was and how good the team was. A year that was supposed to be our best in the Jones era could be our most disappointing. Jones may have lost control of this team.

I don't think either KP or JJM is the answer at QB. When KP gets back under center next year I am sure everyone will want to see Kaiser, CP, or Burcham. And maybe rightfully so.

I suspect KP would have a better year than McD - 14 TDs vs 14 INT's - KP never had a year like that.

We may not have a QB on campus yet that can run any kind of offense here at SMU...2014 baby!

Actually, Kilmer ran the single wing and was a decent runner. Sonny Jurgensen and Roman Gabriel were pretty immobile.

Not worth arguing over...what's done is done. No telling what kp could have done this year

True, I honestly don't think we'd be better than 6-5 at this point had Padron not been pulled.

Agree. Jones elected to pull a kid with 21 starts, 2 bowls, and a conf championship game rather than continue to groom him for further success. Does anyone doubt for 1 min that KP could have easily beat UTEP, NW ST, and Memphis and been ready to play well against TCU? Now we have a mess. Thank you Jones. Whatever the reason, you did a disservice to your program. 6-5 and on the verge on going 6-6. Live with it. Aloha.

Tate Wallis, Chris Sanders.........

I was about to say... Tate Wallis had a patented self-sack maneuver that he brought out at the first sign of a blitz.
