Re: So now...........
I think a lot of people picked SMU to finish 5-7. That's how I see it too when reading my Phil Steele magazine. It seems that SMU was picked to win against UTEP, Northwestern State, Memphis, Tulane and Rice.
I said 6-6. I've seen this program seem to underachieve in the number of games they could've won.
But they can't quit because they could still get 8 wins on the year and that's not too bad. It's much better than the predictions I was reading from those who are not homers.

Re: So now...........
Well in truth, I've been a fan for over 60 years but that does not mean I accept the kind of let down we've had in the last few games. Years ago there were no expectations- now there are. Failures like we have seen in the last 4-5 games does not generate much confidence in the team nor the coaching staff. JMHO.\

I watched bad throws and no throws to open receivers - I firmly believe we have had a hole at the QB postion for a couple of years - so I blame the lack of offense, especially against Navy, on bad QB play. Their O is designed to match up against teams with more talent, so there you go. It was an upset. I was at USM and saw the same problems. Many, many people before the year started had us losing to those teams - they knew the shortages we have.
I don't agree that the starters on this team has better atheletes, and their offers - or lack thereof - out of HS indicate that other college coaches felt the same way. I think JJ's system has made less than average players look better than they are.
You're right the offense has to look better. I am very much looking forward to the future.

First of all your kids came out and hit hard today. Second of all your best player is out for the season and third of all you were on the road against the number 11 team in the country. I'd say their effort was worth praise. Yes they dropped some balls they should have caught and yes red zone execution was poor but your Defense showed that not only can Houston be slowed they can be stopped just as long as your offense has enough bullet in the chamber to keep their offense off the field. Also I'd say I have to give UH a little credit where credit is due. They Stopped SMU today, I didn't think they could stop anybody. I know what the final score ended up being but SMU hung tough for a long time in that football game, injuries and all.
5 years ago did you ever think you would be upset when you lost to number 11? And think you should have won? It's baby steps Pony fans.

Re: So now...........
True - but its hard to be patient. No matter what people say, the TCU win gave us expectations. We also followed that by beating last year's conference champs. I think most people expected a loss today, and we played better than most thought we would (except on offense), but the bad QB play with no adjustment frustrates people. That and coming off a hard loss to a beatable Navy team at home really sticks in the craw.

No excuse for that poor of a performance, in year 4 QB shouldn't be the weakest position on this team. We're taking some big baby steps backwards.

The Defense showed it's teeth. If The Offense would have been better it would have been a nail biter of a ball game. Was your starting running back in the line up today or not? I'd say NOT. The Kicking game did well for SMU as well, I guess the back up kicker missed a FG but seriously you guys looked good in 2 of 3 phases of the game. It wasn't lack of effort today guys, it was lack of talent. If you want to get on the staff about anything it's that they need to get more depth so injuries won't hurt so badly. Easier said than done.

By the way there's nothing wrong with having high expectations, because when you fail to reach them, the result is still usually pretty good. Like SMU is going to end up this season, pretty good. UH probably has a good chance of losing a game and dropping SMU into the Ticket City Bowl slot... We'll do everything we can to send you ohio to beat.

AFB is next in line if Hawaii can't get bowl eligible.

We still have a chance to win 8 games. We're 6-5 and have Rice and a bowl game left. Win them both, and we're at 8 wins.
I'll be at both games. I'll be in Dallas for the Thanksgiving weekend, and I'll be at whatever bowl we're in.

Not so much the record, but the margin we have been getting beat by!!
Re: So now...........
Defense did not quit even when it was obvious that the general could not QB himself out of a paper bag.
