Fan Bowl Preference
Since the Hawaii Bowl is getting dimmer (no pun about the lights), as a fan would you rather go ro the Armed Forces Bowl seeking vengence for our Holiday Bowl defeat which is played every year on ESPN Classics or the Ticket City Bowl and play possibly Ohio State? (I would love to see script Ohio vs the Diamond M.)

With our quarterbacking, I vote for the Toilet Bowl, hopefully nobody will watch it.

I would be at any bowl we wound up in.
But since we did the AFB last year, I'd rather play a B1G team this year in the TicketCity Bowl. Something different for the fan base and a chance to generate some local interest if it's a name team.

Does getting beat by 30 against a 6-6 OSU team generate "interest"? I'm not being a jerk, I'm just saying. We should hope for a low profile opportunity to extend the season. Not a public campaign for a beating. A bad beating won't make fans glad they spent money to come out and support SMU.
People would expect us to lose to a Big Ten team.
We have nothing to lose in the general public's opinion. IMO.
And yes, if we played Ohio State in the TicketCity Bowl, there would be way more interest in that game than us playing BYU. When was the last time OSU was in Dallas?

No, the TCB is a noon game on ESPN U on a day with 5 other games (2 BCS). There will be virtually no interest in that game.

Re: Fan Bowl Preference
I'd say it depends on who the opponent is.
If it is Ohio St, I'd say Ticket City just to play Ohio St and try to steal a huge win. If it is Iowa, BYU is the better opponent, but a win over a Big Ten team might look better. If it's Northwestern, some people would probably expect us to win but we wouldn't.

You are right that the game has no national profile. Don't disagree with that.
But key word is local. If Ohio State rolled into town, there would be a decent amount of local TV and newspaper coverage because OSU never is in Dallas and the week between Christmas and New Year's is a slow news time.
If it's Illinois or Northwestern, then we would get no local coverage at all.
