There is really not much to debate. Both QB's are not good.

maybe but Padron is much less not good. He gave us a punchers chance in every game. We didn't have a chance yesterday.

Its a shame, especially for the defense and other players who work so hard.
i agree 100% with this, on many of june's decisions.

Re: JJ v KP Updated
It's difficult to argue with that. Wasn't the knock on Willis that he was too fleet of foot in the pocket and didn't have the arm strength? It couldn't possibly have been that he wouldn't know the offense since the guy who replaced him was...uhh...a true freshman. After seeing a procession of QBs who really aren't world-beaters in the arm strength department, and having seen statues that are more mobile than our current QB, is there a legitimate, objectively reasonable purpose for taking about 15 seconds to say Willis wasn't good enough? Sure, this is way old hat by now, but it started a ridiculous QB carousel that hasn't stopped, and sure looks to keep going. Willis...BLM...Padron...McDermott...Padron...Preston. Don't forget Gamso & Smith came in and went through as well. Kaiser looks to join that illustrious list here sooner rather than later.
Can we thank June for discovering that BLM didn't have the mental tools to run the offense a whole year earlier by ditching Willis? Watching a few of the games this year, I'm sure a bunch of us would have traded someone elses left arm for a mobile QB like that.

Wasn't sure how bad he was really doing. From the stands it looks bad but the numbers are even worse. JJ McD is 1-4 in last five games with 2TD's and 9INT's. Someone, anyone needs to start against Rice and then have the month of practice going into the bowl game. It needs to be a QB that will be back next year.

I very much agree with Moose's comments. KP has the team's respect and support becuase he's a team guy and bleeds red and blue. My son ran into JJ at a local establishment and couldn't believe what a cocky a**h*** he was.
My son was a D-1 athlete with a national championsip ring on his finger and was with three friends with similar athletic backgrounds. Their consensus was the he'd be a cance on any team he was a part of. This is second hand from my son but I'm giving the unfiltered opinion of four very solid character guys that compete at the highest levels in their sports.
Ah, the irony. SMU80MSD and son slander someone, and then call themselves solid character guys, all in the same post. Amusing.

Let me second what Hoop Fan just said. In defense of Jones, he did the same thing with Willis that Cavan did with Flanagan. They were both seniors from a prior regime, and they didn't fit their coaching style. I still have the tape I made of the 2009 Hawaii Bowl where we completely destroyed a favored Nevada team with accurate long passes from Padron after he had replaced BLM a few games before at quarterback and with a great defense. It is one of my favorates.

I agree with this. You have a quarterback of Justin Willis' ability, and you adapt -- just as you adapt when you have running backs like Shawnbrey and Zach. He was able to do so at the RB position, but not QB.
I'm not a big McDermott fan. But I was ok with giving him a shot. He's been average all in all. Just average. But on Saturday, he was very bad at times.
Here's hoping Padron is the only guy in June's mind for next year. I think the guy just has a ton of talent and will benefit from the year to get his head together.

I don't know what it is, but it seems we only get about 6 good games out of our QBs under June.
JJ used to be great. I don't think Kyle would have had a chance in hell to beat TCU. Something happens though after a few great games. It did for Padron and it did for JJ too now.

Re: JJ v KP Updated
JJ was lucky that his receivers backed him up. I mean c'mon most of his throws were terrible and his receivers made amazing catches. The only passes I can really remember that were decent was OT at TCU, some against memphis, and NWSt (that being said really just TCU). KP made mistakes, sure, as any sophmore would have. I dont even judge him (especially if he was under pressure by Jones, or bad play call, or if he was hurt) at the A&M game. I dont care how loud the volume was at our field, it could never compare to Kyle field. I think had KP was given more faith by June, and only use McDermott as a way to get him more motivated (take him in and out) we would have a terrific chance. There is no doubt it my mind if it was going to be 7-5 either way, it would of been way more enjoyable with KP as QB. He always tries, always motivated, always shows emotion.

McDermott at his best is workmanlike but pedestrian. I understand pulling a Padron -- and I even understand keeping him out until McDermott fails to consistently produce.
I guess I am sort of giving June a pass for this year. You ride out the rest of this year with McDermott, as disappointing as his play has been. Now is not a time to try out an untested freshman, the last game of the year with bowl hopes on the line.
It'd better be Padron and only Padron next year, save mop up duty.

Yeah I gave up on this year since almost blowing the Tulane game. I heard Padron might be in at the Rice game wasnt sure if anyone confirmed it or disproved it. Couldnt agree more, this next game is pretty irrelevant, so might as well see how are new guys handle under pressure. I still laugh that McDermott according to June was NFL ready (or whatever). When you have almost the same Ints and TDs, you are a terrible QB.

Interesting analysis. So, when you have 3 interceptions and no touchdowns, what kind of quarterback are you? Just curious.

Laken Litman
#SMU has dropped 4 of last 5 games & in those losses, JJ McDermott has thrown 9 INTs to 2 TDs. So why not bench him? t.co/c59fdF5H
