How is it that we cannot beat a Navy team that was beaten yesterday by of all teams San Jose State? The defense against the option HAS to be a priority if we want to get 1 more win every year. Just saying...1 more w is 1 more in that column that helps.

SJSU beat Navy because their QB doesn't suck, they allowed the same amount of points to them that we did. We defended the option well enough to win in our last 3 games versus Navy, offense lost each game.

I put it all on the coaching staff. This team has much better athletes than the record indicates. A mistake was probably made when KP was pulled in the first game. With all his faults he is a better QB than McD. Then when Padron gets hurt, the team does not have a decent QB and loses a leader and apparently there is no backup. Kaiser was highly thought of when recruited and now is apparently no good. The defense played well against UH until there was no hope and some starch went out of them. The scary thing is that the defense will probably have to hold Rice to less than seven points if we are to win the game.

In all my years of watching ( and playing) football I have never seen a team turn as sour as this one. I feel sorry for the young men on the team.

Have they really turned that sour though? The offense looks terrible, I know. But for this week, we did lose the #5 RB in the nation, and he was obviously playing hurt before that. Of all the losses, the only one I would have said we'd win before the season is Tulsa, and that has been a tossup in recent years.

I think we got a big win in a rivalry game with an inexperienced TCU team, and as fans, our egos got the better of us. The rest was just a result of the schedule. UTEP, not bowl eligible with 1 to go. NW St., FCS team. Memphis, just gawd awful. UCF, not going to a bowl. Tulane, fired their head coach before we ever played them. I think we are who we thought we were. We just won a couple we didn't expect to early on, but one team turned out to not be any good, and the other one was a rivalry game.

It is just frustrating because most of the losses, including Houston and A&M who were the #11 and #9 teams in the nation when we played them, could have been wins without all the turnovers and the season could have turned out really special. But I have never seen an SMU team that didn't have lots of turnovers.

Early weak schedule gave us a false sense of confidence. We were a 7-5 team all along.

So now, lets install the Kaiser at the helm of the offense.

Jones' ego will not allow for that to happen.

The Houston players and coaches are saying that the game yesterday featured the toughest defense thay had seen all year. A shame that the defensive effort was wasted by a toothless offense. The Cougars were talking about a defensive line they could not budge and LBs that did not miss tackles. I was really proud of the defense and one could see how frustrated some of the offensive players were getting. I believe that the lack of execution on offense has the whole team frustrated.

I'm definitely on the side of being patient and not calling for anyone's head. This team won a game that they probably shouldn't have against TCU and lost a game that they probably shouldn't have as well against Navy. Yes, it would have been very nice to see us be more competitive on offense against Tulsa, USM and Houston.

What frustrates me is watching the play calling versus TCU and then the play calling the rest of the season after that game. We took so many down field shots and were able to convert on many of them. That was the kind of offense I thought we would be developing into with Jones' Run and Shoot. Those deep shots allowed for a more balanced offense, opened up short passing and the run as well. It seems in recent weeks, we've been afraid to do that, and I'd love to know why. I've heard maybe McD has been nursing a sore arm and that explains things to some degree.

I think the thing that some on this board are most guilty of is making Jones out to be a genius coaching savant, and then demonizing him when things don't go the way we think they should. The facts are that he's a very good coach, and great at turning around programs. Obviously we've had some setbacks in recent weeks, but looking at the big picture you'd be crazy not to be very pleased with where we are. He made us change the system to get us to be competitive again, and that's exactly what we've been. None of the other coaches that were here before Jones and after the DP were able to do that. None of the other coaches were able to get us to a bowl game much less three in a row. None of the other coaches post DP were able to get us to the verge of an AQ conference. None of the other coaches before Jones were able to recruit the kind of talent he's bringing in either. For all those reasons, I'm excited to be a Pony Fan in the June Jones Era and can't wait to see what the future holds. Jones isn't perfect, but he's done awfully good by us so far.

GO PONIES!!!!
Here's to those that wish us well and all the rest can go to hell!!!

I am not and never have called for June Jones' head. I have maintained since he was hired that he would make us better but never get us where we should be which is consistently in the top 20-25. The reason, IMO, is that he is not sound on offense. Relies too much on passing and finesse and not enough on running the ball and field position. That philosophy results in an overall team which is not physically and mentally tough. Lazy, "because we can score from anywhere."

It is possible that he could modify his philosophy, get a mobile QB with some designed running plays and have a more balanced offense. Give the opposing defense another runner to account for. I have seen no signs that he might change his philosophy.

As far as turning programs around he made Hawaii a better program but with some caveats. He had some built in advantages. Teams traveling to Hawaii from the mainland were certain to feel disoriented. He seldom beat any first class programs. At SMU he has received some concessions from the administration that gives him an advantage over previous coaches. I, for the most part, like what he is doing but as far as being a great coach in turning programs around he is not in the class, yet, with, for example, Bill Synder and Gary Patterson.
