We have actually had a few players from this area, Brannon Coluccio (96) and that big lineman who played in the late 90s....can't remember his name but he was from Newport as well. Coluccio never played

Height: 6-0 1/2
Weight: 230
40 time: 4.5
Bench: 315
Squat: 520
Vertical:'33 1/2
From: Newport Beach, California
High School: Newport Harbor

Linebacker/fullback prospect Trevor Theriot is one of 12 national finalists for the Wendy's Heisman Award which recognizes outstanding and well-rounded student-athletes.

As a junior he was named second team all-league at LB when he had 55 tackles, four passes broken up, and two forced fumbles. This fall he has mainly been playing offense where he has 1,083 yards and seven touchdowns on 163 attempts. "Schools like me on both sides of the ball," explains Theriot. "UCLA likes me at fullback. USC and Harvard like me at running back and linebacker. Cal likes me at linebacker. It does not matter to me where I play."

On defense this fall, he has 30 tackles, two fumble recoveries, one sack, and one forced fumble.

Theriot has yet to receive his first offer. "There are a lot of coaches calling and coming by the school, but I haven't received any written offers, yet."

UCLA is one of the schools that have came by Newport Harbor. "They came by recently and my dad went up and met with Coach Dorrell, too. I have spoken with him and coach (defensive coordinator Larry) Kerr. I like the way they use the fullback there and I also like that it is close to home."

He also likes what the Trojans do with their running backs. "They like big backs there and that is what I am. I really like Groots (USC linebacker Matt Grootegoed) and the way their defense plays. I have been to several games there this fall. My dad speaks with coach (USC recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach Ed) Orgeron."

Theriot likes all of the schools showing interest in him which include the Bruins, Trojans, Bears, Fresno State, San Diego State, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford.

He has not scheduled any visits yet and says he'll do so at season's end.

The Heisman finalist carries a 4.0 core GPA and scored a 1040 on his SAT. He recently took it again.

Cool! Maybe we can recruit his good buddies Beau, Tripp and Scotter too since we heavily recruit that Newport Harbor area. Why would you post a story about a high school 2,000 miles away about a player who isn't interested in SMU. Don't tell me we are starting a Yacht team?

yeah, you are right. Why would we recruit a kid who is getting calls from the number 1 and number 4 team in the country, has a 4.0 but is looking for his first offer. also, what good players have ever come out of southern california or orange county? Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Matt Grootgeod, Tony Gonzales, and this years top Quaterback Mark Sanchez are all pretty good sailors. Last time I checked Los Alamitos, Mater Dei, and Mission Viejo were all top 25 nationally ranked high school football programs in orange county

And since you know everything, you must know that Newport Harbor High School sends about 5 kids a year to SMU which is about the same number as lake highlands. But you are right as always stallion, why bother sending him a letter. Kids from southern california cannot play football and we have plenty of kids in the metroplex that could get admitted to SMU who are getting recruited by national powers.

What is the name of that show on MTV with Johnny Knoxville?

Actually Biff, Trey and Skip are from Newport, RHODE ISLAND not Newport Beach, California. You're more likely to meet Thor, Shaggy, and Moon Dog at Newport Beach. Of course for pure viewing pleasure, Newport Beach wins hands down. Can you say Baywatch?
