Wow, if there is any truth to this, bypass the greedy SOBs. This is their chance to get out of independence irrelevance. I mean if they dont want another conference to secretly hate them they need to be flexible. Now again alot are rumors, but if there is any truth to the claims that they want everything great for them and no compromises screw them. Im already more of SDSU fan (maybe not great football) but I love the city. It would be a heck of drive/flight but it would be so worth it by 2013. I mean like some people pointed out BYU doesnt have reallly any BCS points, they got locked into AFB so no highlight there. I mean we are just recruiting a name school thats typically good, but they arent going to be the game changer in not getting the AQ. Boise state is and I would make damn sure that they are as happy as possible.

BYU is a very big name and would legitimize the conference immediately. They're not a necessity, but damn it would be great if the Big East got them. However, these BYU exit stipulations are ridiculous and no one would want to vote for that.

Unfortunately for BSU to be happy they need a west team and they said SDSU would be fine as a backup. Otherwise totally agree with you on Memphis.

BYU knows the Big East needs them a lot more than BYU needs the Big East. With all of the uncertainty surrounding the Big East and its ability to keep its AQ status, BYU is smart to push them for everything they can. Some might call it greedy, but they're just looking out for the longterm interests of their institution. Being an independent they may be able to secure a better bowl game than a Big East bowl tie-in should the AQ status be stripped.

All things considered, the Big East should walk away from BYU. It would have been a home run to add them, but to add them on the conditions BYU wants sets a really bad precedent and will lead the other institutions very bitter. This went from being a really cool Western Division w/ BYU and AFA, but those two aren't coming now. Replacing them with SDSU and one of Memphis, USM, ECU, or Temple is a dramatic drop-off and not anywhere near the story/buzz of BYU/AFA.

Wasn't SDSU thinking about dropping football just a few years ago?

Think someone in earlier thread said it was San Jose St. SDSU has been pushing for Big 12.

You are correct. Emails released showed SDSU ad throwing BYU under the bus

Its greedy to the extent that knowingly all the new teams and old teams binded themselves to show faith in the conference. But if you are looking for your self interests then they shouldnt even consider BE. Its insulting to go into long negotiations and say well we think you might fail and we want the easiest way out. Whereas for us, we will take the BE with or without AQ. I think BYU is a little overrated, I think they are well established from their history and such but right now I dont think they are that big of a deal. Air Force is probably the best of the service academies, but again nobody considers the academies to be stellar either.

Both are large, public commuter schools in a state that is facing a budget crisis unlike anything we have ever seen. I'm not sure adding SDSU is a really good option, but I'll gladly take the trip out to San Diego every other year.
