ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard says the merger between Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference should be completed by January.

Ballard made the prediction during a trustees meeting Monday.

The realigned conference will consist of 18 institutions: 9 from the east and 9 from the west.

Ballard said ECU has not withdrawn its bid for the Big East yet.

Yes, but that was a BE that had WVA, Pitt, and Syracuse. Will they get more with the "replacements"?

More schools, Boise has national appeal, Houston making a splash this year, and the key point is that it is open bidding between networks when there are no other options in the NCAA available.
