Shitp competition makes teams and Qbs look better. Just think about games 2, 3, and 4 (UTEP, NW ST, Memhis). Throw in Tulane and now you have the WAC as the competition for Jones' Hawaii teams.

IN college football, successfull offenses are imitated...remember how many were running the wishbone or a version of triple option in the late 60s and 70's? The Nebraska and USC student body left...and then BYU and a few others started throwing it around and "spreading it out". So if succesful offenses are imitated, how come nobody else is running the run and shoot? Is Hawaii the only other besides UH in the early 80's with Ron Jenkins. The spread is a much easier but effective offense, so much so that even high schools and middle schools run it. And you don't haved to have top receiver talent to run it or even a top flight QB! It is the great equalizer!

And....you can get by with an average offensive line. The Goon Squad, the most experienced OL in football....is still very average.
