It was incredibly absent-minded of him. I guess I'm really glad you weren't there to critique all the dumb [deleted] I did in college because kicking a door in would be at the bottom of the list.

I think kicking in a door is the opposite of an "absent-minded" action. Also, it's breaking and entering.

Your missing the point, not about what the kid did or didn't do, it is that the coach didn't suspend him and instead let him still play. It is about the decisions Patterson and others made. Football game was more important, which was silly because he could have suspended him and taken the high road (and looked better) and still won considering the lesser quality teams they were playing. Reminds me of the 1980s when Texas RB Edwin Simmons was running naked thru apartments in Austin, breakin and entering, but still played in football games. If the Penn State thing has showed us all one thing it is that we need to keep perspective about things. Kid should have sat out a few games until they figured out more, I am sure they have other kickers who could have filled in.

I am also sure they will suspend him now to try and make better PR for themselves, but that is after the fact and he was caught. They should have the right thing couple of weeks ago.

I'm not missing the point; your entire argument assumes that Gary Patterson a) knew about the incident and b) chose not to suspend him.

It's my responsibility to "condemn" our kicker? Okay. I condemn his actions.

He knew because he addressed his team about it shortly after it happened. I know 2 people associated with the team including one of your defensive players. Patterson was free to choose not to do anything, it is just my opinion that he made the wrong choice.

They thought it would be handled, but now that charges have been brought they will have to deal with it in public somehow. Again, expect a PR correction, suspension now after he already played, statement they were waiting for the authorities to fully investigate, etc.

I am not a TCU hater, and don't post things just post like others. It is simply my opinion Patterson blew it on this one and like I was told yesterday by a player's parent he didn't have to because of who they were playing. They would have easily won the games anyway.

I trust Coach Patterson made right decision, especially considering his unprecedented track record of doing things the right way, things like placing a strong emphasis on going to class and graduating as well as staying clear out of the way of the law (for reference: TCU lone Top 25 team to have 0 charged last year, and one of two to actually conduct background checks on players)

I'm sure there's a possibility for a slip here, but I doubt it. It's not like Mr. Evans is our star quarterback, especially considering his unfortunate reputation as a shaky (at best) kicker. I'd wait until the dust settles.

He has a track record of doing things the right way????

He tried to send a player with a concussion back on the field and cussed out a doctor. He personally attacked a fellow coach who was trying to pay him a compliment. He is an ahole. This incident is not surprising.

Incorrect, Coach Patterson was unaware that Ed Wesley had a concussion and was pissed off, and rightfully so, that the team physician, Dr. Haraldson, didn't let him know he pulled his star running back from the game; the story was incredibly overblown and Dr. Haraldson, in fact, has since taken full responsibility for the incident.

I do agree with you about his outburst against Coach Jones; he had a similar one after the 2006 win against Texas Tech. Coach Patterson has apologized publicly and personally to Coach Jones.

Coach Patterson's record speaks for itself. He boasts one of the best graduation rates in college football and, like I mentioned above, his kids largely stay out of trouble.

Hey, Gary Patterson is a football coach. He's not playing nurse-maid to his players. None of these coaches do. It's a business. When you are making 2,3,4,5 million, you aren't going to worry if your kicker kicked in a friggin door. As long as he didn't use his kicking foot, not my problem. They talk a good game to the parents, but they don't give a shipt. Wins brother. Just win baby. Anyway you want to say it, it's still the same. There was an old book (early 1971 or 72) written by Gary Shaw about the UT football program. You should read it. It'll open your eyes.
