I hope Coach Price stays where he is. He's a great coach, and he brings immediate credibility to his school and OUR conference.

Good luck to Coach Price and the Miners .... starting tomorrow!

Yeah- He's old like Spurrier. Price will bail as soon as big time comes a knockin'. His lawsuit against SI is going nowhere. He is still looking for a payday. I'm sure he is grateful to UTEP. From what I've seen in the many years of watching, Price will say "I appreciate UTEP for giving me a chance and I hope I repaid their confidence in me by building a winner--Bye"

One year wonder

Postby Sam I Am » Sat Nov 20, 2004 4:02 pm

Just like when Florida talks to Utah, the money takes over. If a name BCS calls, Price will answer. One good year can spoil you when you've never, ever been ranked before. Enjoy it while it lasts. All good things come to an end, some sooner than others. Sorry about that UTEP.

No need to apologize Sam, since it hasn't happened. You can predict what you want, but until Price bails, your post means nothing to us (except perhaps a reflection of jealousy.) If and when Price leaves you can send your condolences. As for now, Mike Price is our coach, we are nationally ranked, and headed to a bowl game vs. the Big 12.

Rivalry aside, what UTEP has done this year seems pretty darn impressive. Good luck in your bowl, Miners.

MondoMiner, I will be pulling hard for UTEP in the bowl, because, the Miners are our current and future conference mates. Congratulations!

I've read lots of post about how soft CUSA West is going to be, but I disagree. You guys have a lot of talent, this year just lacked the experience. I can see UTEP-SMU becoming quite a rivalry. Looking forward to seeing you on the hardwood as well. I think you guys will surprise a lot of people this year.

MondoMiner and UTEPDallas,

You guys should be feeling great with your turnaround this year. Price has done a great job. Two points:

- I agree that Mike Price owes and feels loyality to UTEP for the faith you placed, when Alabama bailed on him. He seems to have a strong character (despite the events in AL) and wants to demonstrate that getting and keeping UTEP ranked is the right thing to do. His U-turn in Alabama was for money, presitge and ego. I'm betting he wants to make the case now that he has moved on in the Character Category.

- The emerging rivalry in CUSA West between the Miners and the Mustangs has the elements to help each of us and our new conference. I like the possibilities of challenging you every year for our regional title and for honors in CUSA. We have farther to go but that would be a great outcome.

Go Ponies
and, when not playing us, Go Miners.
Go CUSA West!
Go CUSA!

Thanks, Mondo! Your rise in football has been impressive, to say the least, and Coach Gillispie certainly left the basketball team primed - the SMU players picked (in the Roundtable section of the Preview on the homepage) UTEP as the best team coming into the season.

Here's to some good hoops games this year, and years of good football.

And I'm with those who think CUSA will be pretty strong, too. Yeah, some good teams are bolting, but top-to-bottom, it looks pretty solid.
