Entry 7: Nov. 24

Mustang Fans,

It feels like only yesterday that I was preparing for my first two-a-day practice here at SMU. For those of you who don't remember, that was back before Ford Stadium was complete. We dressed in a makeshift trailer and had "REAL" two-a-days on the intramural field behind Moody garage. But enough with memory lane.

My last five years here have been great. Maybe not in a win-loss column kind of way, but in another way. The people I've had the chance to meet, along with the support of the true Mustang fans has been one of the greatest experiences I could ever take with me. As I stood on that field in El Paso, Tx., I watched the seconds tick off the end of my career in college football. However, the end of my time here starts the beginning of a much stronger and better equipped SMU team. Over the last three games we grew up as a team. Our expectancy level began to change, and we knew that we could win ball games. The word BELIEVE was posted all over the locker room stadium and in the hearts and minds of all the players. I have never been more proud of my teammates than I was in the last three games. When everyone had written us off we pulled together and played for each other. Both player and coaches kept pushing each other to make the other better.

That reminds me. I want to give a special thanks to Coach Bennett and all of the coaches. They never gave up on us. I heard someone say,"If a coach stops yelling at you, thats when you need to be worried." I don't know if there is a staff in the country that works as hard as they do. With the younger players growing up and this coaching staff going where they want to go, many, many wins are in the Mustangs' future. So look for me in the stands next year because I'll still be wearing Red and Blue. Go Stangs. Seniors 2005.

Look at that - a guy who gave so much of himself to the SMU football program (from the time in the weightroom to add 50 pounds to the years of sweat and blood and exhaustion at practice to become the player we all cheered for) is thanking us and the coaches. Classy move, Allan, but it's us who should be thanking you. I'm always a little hesitant to say someone is "the best player" on a team or a defense or an offense, so I won't say that here. But Allan is a player of whom we all should be proud, and for him to write that so soon after a loss in his final college game speaks volumes about his character.

Thanks for everything you've done, Allan, and thanks to ALL of the seniors. You all are Ponies for the rest of your lives, and we're all PonyFans, and will continue to root for you all, no matter what you do.

And we WILL look for you in Ford Stadium next year!
Got your season tickets yet?!?!?

Nice post. All the best in the future. I know that if you continue to exhibit the work ethic you showed as a player, you will find great success. I hope yours is a legacy that the younger guys will follow. If so, SMU fOOTBALL will once again be successful too.
